    • An optical pickup apparatus is provided with: a light source (20) for emitting a light beam; an optical system (21, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27), which comprises an optical element (24) having an incident surface (24a), to which an AR (Anti-Reflection) coat is not applied and to which the light beam emitted from the light source is inputted obliquely by a predetermined incident angle, for guiding one portion of the emitted light beam transmitted through the incident surface onto an information record medium (32) and guiding a reflection light of one portion of the emitted light beam reflected from the information record medium, and also reflecting another portion of the emitted light beam by the incident surface; a main light detector (30) for receiving the reflection light from the information record medium guided by the optical system and outputting a main detection signal corresponding to record information recorded on the information record medium; a monitor detector (23) for receiving another portion of the emitted light beam reflected by the incident surface of the optical element and outputting a monitor detection signal corresponding to a light amount received by the monitor detector; and a controlling device (31) for controlling an output power of the light beam emitted from the light source on the basis of the monitor detection signal.

    • A recording power control device is capable of optimizing the recording power of a recording optical beam at every recording position on a DVD-R (recordable) disk while an optical disk drive is recording information on the DVD-R disk with the recording optical beam. Simultaneously with the recording optical beam, the disk drive emits an adjusting optical beam behind the recording optical beam in the direction in which information is recorded. The disk drive has a first photodetector for receiving the reflected recording optical beam and a second photodetector for receiving the reflected adjusting optical beam. The recording power control device is equipped with a laser drive circuit for setting the recording power of the recording optical beam according to an output signal from the second photodetector, which receives the reflected adjusting optical beam.

    • An optical record medium has an information record surface on which a plurality of circular arc tracks are arranged such that centers of the circular arc tracks are arranged in a straight line direction. An apparatus for optically recording and reproducing information onto and from the optical record medium is provided with: a rotatable optical system for emitting a light beam onto the circular arc track of the optical record medium which is being moved straight in the straight line direction, while being rotated with an rotational axis perpendicular to the information record surface; a straight moving device for relatively moving the rotatable optical system and the optical record medium to each other in the straight line direction; a detecting device for detecting a displacement amount from the circular arc track at an irradiated position on the information record surface of the light beam, on the basis of a reflection light from the circular arc track of the light beam, and outputting a displacement amount signal indicating the detected displacement amount; a perpendicularly moving device for relatively moving the optical record medium and the rotatable optical system to each other perpendicularly to the straight line direction such that the irradiated position approaches the circular arc track, on the basis of the outputted displacement amount signal; and a recording and reproducing device for recording and reproducing the information onto and from the optical record medium by use of the light beam emitted to the circular arc track.

    • The light receiving surface of the light receiving element, which receives reflected light from an information recorded disc, is divided into sections along lines passing through the center of the surface which run parallel to and perpendicular to the direction of tracking and which also run at an angle of 45 degrees to the first two lines. The tracking errors are detected either by a push-pull method or a heterodyne method. The two methods are combined and alternately switched into operation depending on whether information is being written into or read from the information recording disc. The push-pull method uses a pair of opposing, divided light receiving surfaces disposed in the direction of tracking and the heterodyne method uses two pairs of opposing, divided surfaces disposed diagonally or at an angle of 45 degrees to the direction of tracking.
