    • A self propelled airless grit blast machine that travels on and along a pipeline pipe as it continuously blast cleans the outside of the pipe in advance of pipe coating and/or wrapping. The airless grit blast machine is mounted on a carriage having rollers some of which are driven for controlled driven advance along the pipe being shot grit blast cleaned. A shot grit blast cabinet with a plurality of motor driven airless blast wheels surrounds the pipe being grit blast cleaned in substantially a self contained unit also including a grit elevator system, air wash separator system, shot grit storage hopper, abrasive shot grit retaining seals, abrasive flow controls, and an operator platform with a control panel. An umbilical cord extends to the machine from auxillary equipment including a power generator and dust collector located on a tracked vehicle or on an equipment sled pulled behind a side boom equipped tractor used to walk pipe and hold the pipe in an elevated state as the pipe is being worked along the pipeline right of way.

    • Dry, particulate abrasive for use in abrasive blast cleaning of a ship hull is supplied to blasting pots from abrasive supply hopper assemblies lifted into place from a recycling station. Spent abrasive, with debris, is collected and placed on a conveyor belt extending parallel to the keel blocks, for conveying the collected material to the recycling station. There, the collected material is processed to remove undersized and foreign material from the reuseable abrasive grit. The latter is loaded into supply hopper assemblies, which are crane-lifted back into supplying relation with respective blasting pots. By preference, the abrasive blasting work takes place from elevatable, curtain-enclosed platforms supported on a drydock floor, the blasting pots are located on the drydock wing wall, the abrasive grit is ferromagnetic and recovered from the drydock floor partly with the aid of a magnetic abrasive pick-up unit, and the recycling station is located on a barge moored at an end of the drydock.

    • A hub assembly for a centrifugal fan subjected to large transient thermal stresses is provided in which a pair of opposed hubs sandwich the inner peripheral margin of a disc-shaped fan plate, with the inner peripheral margin of the plate including a thickened ring portion to provide oppositely projecting annular shoulders at the outer periphery of the thickened ring portion, with the opposing hubs having annular recesses to receive the thickened ring portion and with the outer peripheries of the recesses in closely abutting relation with the shoulders to provide a shoulder-recess bearing area and with a plurality of fastener means extending through the hubs and through the thickened ring portion so that the shoulder-recess bearing area, which is located radially outwardly from the bearing stress areas at the bolt holes, largely receives the transient thermal stresses and therefore reduces the stress in the bolts and plate.
