The insertion device is removed from the implant once positioned, or may be reconnected at another location to further position the implant.

The end plates include a bone contact surface and an oppositely facing surface. A peripheral surface extends around a perimeter of the end members. The recesses may extend inward from the oppositely facing surfaces. Further, the recesses may extend inward from the peripheral surfaces. The recesses for engaging the spacer member and distractor may be separate from each other or may intersect one another. A spacer may engage the end plates to establish a desired vertebral spacing. The spacer may be positioned between the implants after a desired distraction is obtained with a distractor that engages the end plates.

摘要： The present application is directed to self-locking surgical fasteners. The fastener generally includes a shaft section, a head section, and one or more locking members. The locking members may be located within the head section. A first portion of the locking members may extend beyond an outer surface of the head section, and a second portion of the locking members may extend into a hollow interior of the head section. A tool used to insert the fastener into the patient engages a receiver portion of the fastener. As the insertion tool engages the receiver, the tool may contact and exert a force on the locking member such that the first portion of the locking member may be retracted within the head section. Upon disengaging the insertion tool from the receiver, the locking member may return to the position extending outward beyond the outer surface of the head section.

The first region includes a first longitudinal height when the implant is maintained at a temperature below a threshold temperature. The first region includes a second longitudinal height when the implant is maintained at a temperature at or above the threshold temperature. The tubular member further includes a second region with a third longitudinal height regardless of whether the implant is maintained above or below the threshold temperature. The second region may be constructed of the same shape-memory material. The second region may be disposed at an end of the tubular member. Bone-growth materials may be packed into the ends of the tubular member. End pieces may be coupled to the ends of the tubular member.

摘要： An implant for insertion between vertebral body endplates includes first and second end members, each with a respective endplate contact surface. The implant further includes a collapsible intermediate section disposed between the first and second end members and an inflatable member contained within the intermediate section. The intermediate section may be expandable upon the introduction of a substance into the inflatable member between a first size to space the first and second end members a first distance apart and a second enlarged size to space the first and second end members a second greater distance apart. The inflatable member may increase in size from a compressed size in which the inflatable member will pass through an opening in the intermediate section and an expanded size in which the inflatable member will not pass through the opening and is thereby captively retained within the intermediate section.
