    • PURPOSE:To obtain such vane shape as to correspond in a wide operating range without lowering its performance by forming the front edge part of a vane into elliptical shape with its major axis direction to be the flow direction, and providing this front edge part in such a way as to be in contact with the pressure face and negative pressure face of the vane. CONSTITUTION:A vane 1 is formed of a negative pressure face 2, a pressure face 3 and a front edge part 6. The front edge part 6 is formed into elliptical shape with its major axis direction to be the flow direction, and provided in such a way as to be in contact with the negative pressure face 2 and the pressure face 3. As a result, breakaway generated from the front edge part of the vane 1 is controlled by the pressure distribution on the vane face. With this constitution, the pressure distribution of the vane front edge part 6 can be adjusted, and thereby the flow breaking away once at the front edge part 6 can be attached again. Large loss caused by the existing breakaway can be therefore reduced in large degree.

    • PURPOSE:To suppress erosion and improve the life of a water turbine by feeding the water containing sediment with the concentration lower than that of the inflow water from a river on the water turbine flow water surface of the runner blades, guide vanes, and runner seal sections of the water turbine and forming the water film of the feed water on the water turbine flow water surface. CONSTITUTION:A sediment grain separator 7 is provided in the runner crown 1a of the runner 1 of a water turbine. Multiple water intake holes 8 are formed on the outer periphery toward the upper section of a water intake pipe 8 concentrically provided with the rotary main shaft 6 of the sediment grain separator 7. Conduit pipes 9 are radially provided along the inner wall of the runner crown 1a below the water intake pipe 8. The conduit pipes 9 are guided to the runner outer periphery 1b, the water containing low-concentration sediment is blown out through multiple blowout holes 10a provided on the runner outer periphery 1b, multiple blowout holes 10b provided on the runner outer periphery 1c on the shroud side, and multiple blowout holes 10c formed on blades 1d near the runner inlet to form a water film on the water turbine flow water surface, the erosion by the water containing high-concentration sediment is prevented.

    • PURPOSE:To shorten a measuring time largely and to make it possible to perform measurement at a low cost by providing a water column incorporating sediment and a pure water column which does not incorporate sediment, and measuring the pressure difference between the lower ends of both water columns with the differential pressure. CONSTITUTION:A draining valve 11 is opened. Water in an upper water tank 4 is guided into a pipe 9 for water incorporating sediment. The water is drained through a draining pipe 12. After the pipe 9 is filled, the draining valve 11 is closed. Aqueduct water 7 is supplied into a pure water pipe 8 from the outside. The upper end of the pipe 8 is aligned with the water surface of the water tank 4. This can be achieved readily by opening the water supply port for the water 7 and making the water overflow into a container-like float 6. In this way, the liquid column in the pipes 9 and 8 are prepared at the same height. Thereafter, a differential pressure DELTAP' in a differential pressure gage 10 is read. A sediment concentration C' for the measured differential pressure DELTAP' is obtained from the relationship between a differential pressure DELTAP and a sediment concentration C which are measured and prepared beforehand. When the concentration C' exceeds an allowable concentration Ca which is determined from the life of a water turbine, the operation of the water turbine is stopped.
