    • A putter head has a head main body and a face insert mounted on a face surface of the head main body. The face insert has a slit which is cut in from an end face on a sole or top side of the face insert toward an opposite side thereof. In one embodiment, the slit is cut in from an end face on the sole side of the face insert toward the top side thereof. The slit may be extended obliquely such that the top side of the slit is located forward of the face insert. In another embodiment, the slit is cut in from the side face on the top side of the face insert toward the sole side thereof. The slit may be extended obliquely such that the sole side of the slit is located rearward of the putter head. Any slit may be extended from the side face on a toe side of the face insert to the side face on a heel side thereof. The face inserts may contain viscoelastic material loaded in the slit.

    • This invention provides a plurality of grooves formed on a face of the golf club head. Each of a pair of side surfaces of each of the grooves has a first surface leading to the face and a second surface leading to the first surface in the depth direction of the groove. A first angle between the first surfaces of each of said pair of the side surfaces is larger than a second angle between the second surfaces of each of the said pair of the side surfaces. Edges of the groove are rounded. A width W (mm) of the groove measured including the rounded edges, a width Ws (mm) between the grooves adjacent one another, a width Wr (mm) of the groove measured based on the 30 degrees measurement rule and a cross section area S (mm2) of the groove satisfy the following expressions; W/Ws×100≧40(%), S/(Ws×0.5)×100≧70(%).

    • There is provided a golf club head that produces a loud hitting sound satisfying the golfer even if the volume of the golf club head having a hollow structure is increased to at least about 400 cc. A golf club head 1 having a hollow structure comprises a face part 2, a side part 3 comprising a back side, a sole part 4, a crown part 5, and a hosel part 9 having a shaft insertion hole, and the crown part 5. The crown part comprises a thick region 6 and a thin region 8. The thick region 6 extends through a distance WA of at least about 20 mm from the center axis line C of the shaft insertion hole toward the highest point T of the crown part 5 and extends through a distance WB of at least about 30 mm from the center axis line C of the shaft insertion hole toward the back side so that the crown part 5 has the first-order natural frequency of at least about 3000 Hz.

    • A putter head prevents a ball from sliding over a green while maintaining golfers' preferred hitting feel and roll of the ball. A face insert fitted in a face of the putter head has an outer layer which serves as a ball-hitting surface and an inner layer which is located on an inner side of a head body. A smash factor of a second polymer material forming the inner layer is greater than a smash factor of a first polymer material forming the outer layer. Two types of groove, grooves of a first groove group and grooves of a second groove group are formed in an external surface of the outer layer. The grooves of the first groove group may be 0.25 to 1.6 mm wide and 0.05 to 0.5 mm deep and the grooves of the second groove group may be 0.075 to 0.5 mm wide and 0.025 to 0.1 mm deep.
