    • In various embodiments, icons, specific to a type of memory card (e.g., a flash memory card) inserted into a card reader may be displayed. In some embodiments, the card reader may be electrically connected to the host controller each time a memory card is inserted into the card reader. In various embodiments, different device identifications may be reported as if the card reader were actually several different card readers each dedicated to a different memory card type. A registry of an operating system may be preloaded with a different icon for each of the different card reader types. An icon may be displayed on a display specific to the type of memory card inserted. When the memory card is removed, the card reader may be electrically disconnected and the displayed icon may be removed or replaced.

    • A USB communications interface (USBCI) may enable communication between a high-speed USB device, e.g. a High-Speed-Inter-Chip (HSIC) USB device, and a non high-speed USB host, e.g. a full-speed USB host. The USBCI may receive first data from the USB host via a non high-speed transaction, and buffer the first data. The USBCI may also initiate a high-speed transaction corresponding to the non high-speed transaction to the USB device, and transmit at least a portion of the buffered first data to the USB device via the high-speed transaction. The USBCI may subsequently receive second data from the USB device via the high-speed transaction, and buffer the second data. The USBCI may also transmit at least a portion of the buffered second data to the USB host via the non high-speed transaction, and complete the non high-speed transaction upon the high-speed transaction completing.

    • In various embodiments, devices coupled to upstream ports may enumerate the USB switching hub according to the total number of downstream ports on the USB switching hub. In some embodiments, when a first upstream port is communicating with a first downstream port, status registers coupled to the second upstream port may indicate to the second upstream device that the first downstream port is disconnected. By enumerating the USB switching hub according to the total number of downstream ports, the upstream devices may not have to re-enumerate the hub (and correspondingly each device coupled to the hub) each time a downstream device is switched. In some embodiments, an intelligent port routing switch may delay switching communications for the downstream port if there is an active transfer in progress between a related downstream port and an upstream port.

    • A portable RAM drive comprising data stored on a non-volatile memory and transferable to a volatile memory when the portable RAM drive is coupled to a computer system. When the portable RAM drive is plugged into the computer system, the data from the non-volatile memory may be transferred to the volatile memory for faster access by the computer. If the portable RAM drive is unplugged from the computer, an internal power source may power the portable RAM drive long enough to transfer the data from the volatile memory to the non-volatile memory. In one embodiment, the portable RAM drive may use a restraining device or an indicator light to indicate to the user that the portable RAM drive should not be unplugged from the computer because the data has not yet been transferred from the volatile memory to the non-volatile memory.
