    • PURPOSE:To improve the joining property on a copper pipe side and to form a good fillet shape in welding of the copper pipe penetrating through a steel plate by a nonconsumable electrode by preheating the part of the copper pipe near the weld zone having good heat conductivity with an arc and welding the weld zone with a filler wire fed to said zone. CONSTITUTION:A nonconsumable electrode 3 is first deviated as shown by a dotted line in the figure in the fillet welding of a copper pipe 2 penetrating through a steel plate 1 and the circumference of the pipe 2 is preheated with arc discharge. The electrode 3 is then set in a prescribed position and while a filler wire 4 is fed, the two members are welded. The build-up surface is then leveled off and the welding is completed. If the pipe 2 having good heat conductivity is preheated in the above-mentioned way, the heat balance thereof with the steel plate is improved and the good build-up weld zone is formed.

    • PURPOSE:To give low abrasive property and high wear resistance to the surface of metal by forming a sulfide layer by keeping a metal material at a fixed temperature and under reduced pressure in an atmosphere of CS2 and any one of air, CO2, H2, and O2. CONSTITUTION:A metal material (e.g., SS41 steel) is charged in a furnace with CS2 and any one of air, CO2, H2, and O2 and then kept at 300-600 deg.C and under one atom, particularly while keeping the pressure of CS2 at 10-300 Torr. Preferably, in the case the other gas, e.g., air or H2, its pressure shaould be kept at 5-300 Torr, or in the case of CO2 or O2, its pressure shoul be kept at 1-150 Torr. Also, the preferred maintenance time of the foresaid temperature is 0.5-20hr. Thus, H2S formed is fixed in the form of solid sulfides by the introduction of an element, e.g., Mn, etc., having a high affinity to S, after treatment. Thus, H2S can be easily removed and also treatment is very easy and no harmful gas, e.g., HCN, etc., emits because of no use of NaCN, etc., as in the conventional cases, permitting operational control to made easier.
