    • PURPOSE:To efficiently recover an adsorbent which has adsorbed U in seawater, by removing part of the adsorbent in seawater which part is of a relatively large diameter by sedimentation separation; adding a ferrous salt soln. to the seawater to coprecipitate the residual fine adsorbent and an iron cpd.; and magnetically separating the adsorbent. CONSTITUTION:Adsorbent 2 and seawater 3 are contacted in adsorption vessel 1 for a fixed time and fed to settler 6 with pump 5 to remove part of adsorbent 2 which part is of a relatively large diameter. Seawater contg. fine adsorbent 2 is supplied to mixer 10 with pump 9. A ferrous salt soln. is fed from tank 12 to mixer 10 with pump 11 and mixed into the seawater. The mixed soln. is introduced into magnetic separtor 13 to separate the adsorbent and seawater. The seawater is discharged. Precipitates accumulated in the lower part of settler 6 are fed to a U adsorption process together with the adsorbent recovered by the magnetic separation. Since the adsorbent concn. after the sedimentation separation is below 1 ppm, below 1 ppm of the ferrous salt is enough to be added. The salt easily forms magnetic precipitates such as gamma-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 in seawater to coprecipitate the fine adsorbent.
