    • PURPOSE:To obtain the juncture of optical fibers having a small connection loss by easily and adequately adjusting the state of electric discharge at the time of fusion splicing of the optical fibers with a prescribed optical system and image processing system. CONSTITUTION:The intensity of the discharge and the position of the discharge are elucidated from the luminance distribution of the discharge at the time of fusion-splicing the ends of the optical fibers 10, 20 to each other by an electric discharge means. The image of the mutually fused part of the ends of the optical fibers is, therefore, picked up by the optical system 50 at the time of the discharge by discharge electrodes 40, 41. The image signal thereof is inputted to the image processing system 60 and the luminance distribution over the respective end parts of the optical fibers is measured. The intensity of the discharge to the respective end parts of the optical fibers and the positions of the discharge are adjusted to the optimum conditions in accordance with the results of the measurement. The fusion splicing of the optical fibers with the small connection loss is executed in this way.

    • PURPOSE:To detect defects, etc. in the weld zones of pipes synchronously with pipe producing stages without making the stages longer by detecting the presence or absence of gaseous leakage in the respective parts of the pipes by scanning the pipe longitudinally through a casing. CONSTITUTION:A pipe 3 connected of a seam 6 by a welding machine 5 is inserted into dies 2a, 2b and is passed through a casing 1. A fine pipe 4 contained in the pipe 3 is disposed in such a way that its leading end part 7 is located within the casing 1 and its opening face 8 faces a weld zone 9. Thence, a vacuum pump is connected to a channel 10 provided in the casing 1 to evacuate the inside of the casing 1; at the same time, a gas is supplied to the pipe 4 and is flowed out through its leading end part 7. In such a state, the pipe 3 is taken off in the rightward direction, and if there are no defects or flaws in the weld zone 9, the gas in the pipe 3 is not sucked into the casing 1, but if any defect or the like exists, it turns out that the gas is sucked into the casing 1. The sucked gas is sucked into the channel 10, and is detected with the gas detector connected thereto.

    • PURPOSE:To reduce switching time of an optical connector by turning off a switching means before the movement of the first connector is completed and at the same time, by decreasing the moving speed, and setting the moving speed to approximately zero at the preset moving position. CONSTITUTION:When abnormalities are generated on an optical communication line on an optical connector 1 side, a movable holder 13 is first moved back. Then, a switching solenoid 14 gets actuated, and an elevating stage 12 elevates by making a parallel translation along optical connectors 1, 4. Before an optical connector 2 ceases work, the switching solenoid 14 is turned off, and at the same time, a brake solenoid 15 is driven and the speed of the optical connector 2 is decreased. As a result, the elevating speed becomes approximately zero when the elevating stage 12 is elevated by the preset amount of elevation. Thus, the vibration of the optical connector is suppressed in the switching operation, enabling abutting connection of optical connectors immediately after switching.

    • PURPOSE:To obviate the generation of an increase in loss at an optical fiber juncture by relatively moving a clip and respective optical connectors in the direction where the load acting on the optical connectors decreases at the time of attaching and detaching the clip to and from the respective optical connectors by widening the respective holding pieces of the clip to the respective outer sides. CONSTITUTION:A cam 41 for lifting and a cam 42 for opening and closing rotate respectively in the same direction when the revolutions of a motor 38 are transmitted to a revolving shaft 29 by means of a power transmission system including an endless transmission band 43 to rotate the revolving shaft 3 counterclockwise. Rotating members 45A, 45B of both operating bodies 44A, 44B are pushed downward by means of a cam 43 for opening and closing according to the above-mentioned rotation. The cam 41 for lifting which rotates in synchronization with the cam 43 for opening and closing rises a moving body 31 and prevents the load from a flexible circuit board 6 from exceeding a prescribed value and, therefore, the butt state of the two optical connectors 2A, 2B is not impaired. Then, the generation of the increase in the loss does not arise in the part where the coated optical fibers 1A, 1B held connected by the connectors are connected to each other.

    • PURPOSE:To uniformize the grease between end faces at the time of butting of both connectors by providing a speed relieving body which relieves the pressing speed of the moving side connector by a pressing body near the moving side connector. CONSTITUTION:The optical connector joining device constituted by disposing the two connectors C, D mounted with optical fibers A, B so as to face each other, fixing the one connector C, movably constituting the other connector D and pressing the moving side connector D to the stationary side connector C side by the pressing body H so as to butt the two connectors C, D via the grease G interposed between the end faces E and F of these connectors is provided with the speed relieving body 1 near the moving side connector D. Then, the moving speed of the moving side connector D by the pressing body H is relieved by the speed relieving body 1. The grease is spread uniformly between the end faces E and F of the two connectors C, D, by which the connection loss between the two connectors C and D is lessened. The good optical switch having stable optical characteristics is obtd.

    • PURPOSE:To stably hold connector plugs by providing means which are arranged on a fixed-side connector holder and a moving-side connector holder respectively and press both the rear end surfaces of the connector plugs and the height position of the optical fibers of an optical fiber cable equally in the horizontal and right-left directions with a spring force. CONSTITUTION:The connector plugs 4 and 3 of an optical connector are stored in storage parts 11c and 12c for the fixed-side connector holder 11 and moving- side connector holder 12 and the pressing members 20 and 25 press both the rear end surfaces 4b and 3b of the connector plugs 4 and 3 and the center, i.e. the height position of optical fibers 2 and 1 equally in the horizontal and right-left directions with the spring force without interfering with a clip pressing the connector plugs 4 and 3 against each other. Consequently, the connector plugs 4 and 3 are pressed against each other without slanting in any direction. Thus, while the connector plugs 4 and 3 are held, the clip which brings the both into press contact is detached. Consequently, the connector plugs 4 and 3 can be held excellently in press contact.
