    • The present invention relates to novel chemistries which allow for heretofore unobtainable substituted tetracycline compounds which exhibit significant activity in tetracycline responsive states. The methods disclosed herein utilize reactive tetracycline-based precursor compounds, reactive organic substituent precursors and transition metal catalysts under conditions such that a tetracycline compound substituted with the desired organic substituent is formed. In one embodiment of the invention, a substituted tetracycline compound may be prepared by combining a reactive tetracycline-based precursor compound such as an arene tetracycline diazonium salt, and a reactive organic substituent precursor, e.g., alkenes, substituted alkenes, vinyl monomers, aromatics and heteroaromatics, in the presence of a transition metal catalyst, such as palladium chloride, under conditions such that a tetracycline compound substituted with the organic substituent is formed. Such compounds may optionally act as intermediates for making other compounds, e.g., hydrogenation of unsaturated groups on the substituent.

    • A product vulnerable to damage during shipping, such as an automobile windshield glass, for example, is mounted on a support pad and fixed onto the pad by wrapping a stretch wrapping film around the combination of the pad and glass. The borders of the pad extend beyond the borders of the glass so the package containing the glass can be stood on edge, but the edge of the glass is spaced away from the surface on which the package is stood. Thus the glass, secured to the pad, is suspended away from that surface. Multiple packages can be packed into a shipping container and the loaded container can be lifted and transported by a lift truck with lifting forks received in passageways formed in the container by notches in the bottom edges of the support pads. The pads and containers are made of die-cut. corrugated fiberboard material although other material might also be used in the practice of the invention.

The user simply inserts a syringe with needle attached in the opening provided in the top of the device and resists the rotation of the needle hub after the hub is engaged by the motor driven cams. Sensors detect the presence of the needle and cause the motor to start driving a chuck mechanism (through a shaft to which gears are attached) which engages the needle and rotates it a predetermined, but changeable, number of times sufficient to disengage the needle from the syringe. The operator then removes the syringe and the needle drops or has dropped into the safe. The system has a counter which counts the number of actuations of the needle sensor. When a predetermined limit is reached the device signals the operator that the safe is nearly full. A further fixed number of needles can then be removed, when that limit is reached, a fuse on the safe is blown causing the system to be inoperative until a new box is installed.     • Systems and methods for controlling ambiance devices, or an embedded device, using a device style sheet are disclosed. Ambiance devices include devices used to control an environment in a room or area, such as a lighting device or a heating/cooling system. A device style sheet declaration is received, in one embodiment, at an ambiance device controller. The declaration comprises a scope selector that identifies a scope of a style to be applied, a property identifier that identifies a style property to be altered, and a property value that identifies a style property value to be applied. At least one ambiance device, within the scope identified by the scope selector, that is in electronic communication with the ambiance device controller is identified. A control signal for the ambiance device is formulated based on the property identifier and property value. The control signal is then transmitted to the ambiance device.
