    • A position determination system and apparatus for utilizing a network of cellular base stations to determine position of a mobile station includes taking a plurality of statistically independent data measurements of the pilot signals from the base stations. Each of the data measurements includes an earliest time of arrival, providing multiple independent measurements for each of the pilot signals. For each cellular base station, a representative measurement is calculated responsive to the independent measurements, which is used to determine position of the mobile station using an AFLT algorithm and/or in conjunction with a GPS algorithm. In some embodiments, the data measurements for each pilot signal further include an RMSE estimate and time of measurement for each time of arrival, and an energy measurement for all resolvable paths. If the mobile station comprises a cell phone, a cell search list and a GPS search list may be provided by a cell base station.

    • Systems, apparatuses, and methods disclosed herein allow a requesting party to control use of another user's mobile station. In some aspects, a server is configured to communicate with a plurality of remote computer systems and target mobile stations. The server includes a memory device and a processor configured to access data and logic instructions embedded on the memory device. The server authenticates a requesting party accessing the computer server from one of the remote communication systems. The requesting party is not a user of a selected one of the target mobile stations. The server receives selective availability attributes for the selected one of the target mobile stations from the requesting party. The selective availability attributes indicate conditions under which the target mobile station is enabled or disabled to operate, and features that are available on the target mobile station under a plurality of conditions when the target mobile station is enabled. The server further determines when the target mobile station is operational and downloads the selective availability attributes to the target mobile station when the target mobile station is operational.

    • A method and device for managing a reference oscillator within a wireless device is presented. The method includes selecting reference oscillator parameters associated with the lowest reference oscillator error, where the selection is based upon reference oscillator parameters derived using different technologies within a wireless device, acquiring a satellite based upon the selected reference parameters, determining the quality of the satellite-based position fix, and updating the reference oscillator parameters based upon the quality of the satellite-based position fix. The wireless device includes a wireless communications system, a satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver, a reference oscillator connected to the wireless communications system and SPS receiver, and a mobile controller connected to the reference oscillator, SPS, and wireless communications system, and a memory connected to the mobile controller, where the memory stores a reference oscillator parameter table and instructions causing the mobile controller to execute the aforementioned method.

    • A database for location or geographic based services is secured by requiring location based requests to include a unique identifier that identifies the location as well as an authorization identifier associated with the location. The authorization identifier is information that is obtained by being physically present at the location, such as information from access points that are at the location or a position fix when present at the location. The authorization identifier may be non-unique but relatively time-invariant, making such information easily crowdsourced, but difficult to obtain unless physically present at the location. For example, the authorization identifier may be an SSID or a Beacon Frame, or a hash thereof from one or more devices at the location or a position fix.
