摘要： A curable film-forming composition of 5 to 95 weight percent (based on the total resin solids weight in the composition) of a crosslinking agent; 5 to 95 weight percent ot a polymer containing functional groups reactive with the crosslinking agent; and 0.01 to 15 weight percent of at least one additive selected from a reaction product of phosporous acid and: at least one diepoxide; at least one diepoxide and at least one anhydride; at least one diepoxide and at least one anhydride, chain extended with at least one diol; at least one monoepoxide and at least one anhydride, chain extended with at least one diepoxide; and mixtures thereof. The additives in the composition prevent thermal oxidation, minimizing visual effects (i.e., yellowing). A multi-component composite coating includes a base coat and a top coat which may be derived from the above curable film-forming composition.

摘要： A thermosetting composition comprising a co-reactable solid, particulate mixture of (a) capped polyisocyanate crosslinking agent, e.g., a trimer of 1-isocyanato-3,3,5 -trimethyl-5-isocyanatomethylcyclohexane capped with e-caprolactam or 1H-2,5-dimethyl pyrazole, and (b) hydroxy functional polymer, is described. The hydroxy functional polymer is prepared by atom transfer radical polymerization and has well defined polymer chain architecture and polydispersity index of less than 2.5. The thermosetting compositions of the present invention have utility as powder coatings compositions.

摘要： Curable film-forming compositions containing epoxy functional copolymers, polycarboxylic acid crosslinking agents, and triaryltin compound having the chemical structure of (Ar).sub.3 SnOR wherein the aryl groups are the same or different and at least one aryl group is substituted with at least one atom or group selected from the group consisting of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, phosphorous, silicon and halogen and R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl, and acyl groups are disclosed. The compositions do not release benzene during cure. The compositions may be powder or liquid and are useful as clear coats, particularly in a color-plus-clear composite coating system.

摘要： A composite coating of a water-borne basecoat and an epoxy-acid clearcoat has improved performance characteristics of reduced yellowing or reduced tendency to chip through the formulation of the composite coating and the process for its application. The process comprises applying to the substrate a film-forming composition to form a basecoat and applying to the basecoat an epoxy-acid clear film-forming composition to form a transparent topcoat over the basecoat. The basecoat is a coating composition comprising a polymeric film-forming resin, aminoplast crosslinking agent and a pigment wherein the crosslinking agent is a partially or fully alkylated aminoplast and has a lower or higher imino content. The lower imino content promotes reduced yellowing of the clearcoat and the higher imino content promotes improved chip resistance when the pigment of the water-borne basecoat reduces yellowing effects. The transparent topcoat, or clearcoat, has an epoxy film forming resin and a polycarboxylic acid crosslinking agent.
