    • A tubing cassette and method for use in cooling a surgical handpiece. The handpiece is provided with a drive motor which is received within a cooling chamber adapted to circulate cooling fluid around the motor. The cooling chamber is accessible from the exterior of the handpiece via inflow and outflow apertures, and a disposable cassette is selectively attachable to the exterior of the handpiece so as to communicate inflow and outflow apertures of the cassette with the inflow and outflow apertures on the handpiece body. The cassette is provided with inflow and outflow ports in communication with its inflow and outflow apertures in order to direct cooling fluid into and out of the cooling chamber via tubes through which coolant fluid may be circulated with the aid of an external pump, if desired.

    • A curved bur with an inner flexible member that is rotatably positioned within an outer tube. The curved bur has a design that constrains the flexible inner coil within the outer tube as the curved bur is rotated (without permitting the coil to stretch and to allow the bur tip to come out of the distal end of the outer tube). To ensure containment of the flexible coil within the outer tube, the outer tube is provided with a constraining neck feature at its distal end to allow the flexible inner assembly to be constrained within the outer tube, and to prevent bur extrusion. The constraining neck feature also centers the bur tip and prevents bur wobble. The curved bur may have a convex or concave bend configuration.

    • An angled tissue cutting instrument comprises an angled outer tubular member rotatably receiving a flexible inner tubular member. The inner member has a flexible region in correspondence with an angle of the outer member. The flexible region comprises a helically cut length portion of an elongate tubular body of the inner member and a continuous solid flexible surface secured to an outer surface of the body along the helically cut length portion. A method of fabricating a flexible inner tubular member involves forming a helical cut through the solid wall of a length portion of a tubular body and securing a continuous solid flexible surface to the outer surface of the body along the helically cut length portion to form a flexible region.

    • A method of endoscopically removing tissue including providing a surgical cutting instrument including a first elongated member having a cutting tip, a second tubular member forming a cutting window, and a handpiece. The first elongated member is co-axially disposed within the second tubular member such that the cutting tip is exposed at the cutting window and combines to define a cutting implement. The first and second members are coupled to the handpiece.
