    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery with a cathode including a transition metal and lithium which is arranged so that the deterioration of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery owing to the transition metal eluted from the cathode is suppressed, and a small internal resistance and a high electric capacity can be maintained even after having experienced the high-temperature storage or the charge and discharge at a high temperature.SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises: an anode capable of absorbing and releasing lithium; a cathode including a transition metal and lithium; and a nonaqueous electrolyte having an organic solvent and a lithium salt dissolved in the organic solvent. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a polyvalent carboxylic acid ester compound expressed by the general formula (1) or (2).
