    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a direct furnace in which a strong dense layer dome can be formed on a lower part of a thermal decomposition zone at all times, and hence stable waste gasifying/melting processing is achieved and durability of a furnace wall is greatly improved. SOLUTION: A vertical shaft furnace is adapted such that a charge port for waste is provided in an upper part or a side trunk part, and an introduction pipe 27 for oxygen containing gas is connected with a bottom whereby there are formed therein in succession from the charge port to a lower portion a drying zone, a thermal decomposition zone 21, and a combustion/melting zone 22. In the vertical shaft furnace, a direct trunk part 23 having a smaller cross section than those of the thermal decomposition zone and the combustion/melting zone is provided between the thermal decomposition zone 21 and the combustion/ melting zone 22, and the direct trunk part 23 is formed with a metal material in which a cooling medium is introduced.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for endothermic reaction not requiring large scale preheator to preheat the raw gas and a large scale cooling apparatus to quench the gas reaction product. SOLUTION: A preheated raw gas, stream and an oxidizing agent is mixed and injected into the reaction vessel 1 equipped with a burner. A part of the raw gas is burned in the reaction vessel 1 and using the heat generated by this combustion, an endothermic reaction is carried out to produce the reaction produce gas. A regenerating burner device 3 is used as a burner. This regenerating burner 3 has a burner 5 having a nozzle 5a at the end of the oxidizing agent supplying tube 5b supplying an oxidizing agent or an oxidizing agent and steam used to burn a part of the raw gas. The raw gas or the raw gas with steam is supplied through at least one gas permeable heat reservoir 4 heated with the heat of reaction product gas. The reaction product gas is discharged through heat reservoir 4. The raw gas or the raw gas with steam supplied through the heat reservoir 4, is preheated by the heat reserved in the heat reservoir 4.
