    • A system (100) including a hydraulic accumulator (102), a pressure sensor (104), a fluid source (106) and a data processor (108) to detect a pre- charge pressure is provided. The hydraulic accumulator (102) includes first and second chambers (302, 304) and a separator (306) therebetween. The hydraulic accumulator (102) has an associated pre-charge pressure. The pressure sensor (104) coupled to the first chamber (302). The data processor (108) is configured to receive pressure readings from the pressure sensor (104). The data processor (108) is configured to determine a first and second rate of pressure changes, and a transition pressure between the first and second rates. The approximate pre- charge pressure is determined based on the transition pressure.

    • An energy recovery system (114) for a machine (10) having a movable work tool (16), a swing motor (49) to swing the work tool (16) about a vertical axis (46), a pump (58) providing pressurized fluid to the swing motor (49), a power source (88) outputting power to drive the pump (58), and a controller (110). The energy recovery system (114) may include a first accumulator (118), a swing charge valve (128) selectively connecting the swing motor (49) to the first accumulator (118), an assist motor (132) operatively connected to the power source (88), and a discharge valve (130) selectively connecting the first accumulator (118) to the assist motor (132). The swing charge valve (128) may fluidly connect the swing motor (49) to the first accumulator (118) when fluid pressure from the swing motor (49) is greater than a charge set pressure. The controller (110) may cause the discharge valve (130) to fluidly connect the first accumulator (118) with the assist motor (132) when the power demand on the power source (88) is greater than a minimum assisted power demand.
