The network device may have a decompressor instead of, or in addition to, the compressor that can decompress received data that is compressed.

摘要： A protocol is provided for backing up ATM network devices should they fail. The protocol is implemented in a system running ATMARP and supporting IP over ATM. In the protocol, multiple ATM network devices are combined in a “standby group” and share a common IP address. When an active member of the standby group fails, one of the other members of the standby group takes over ATM responsibility for the functions of the failed device. An ATMARP Server determines which member of a standby group should handle IP packets destined for that group.

摘要： In one particular embodiment, the secure media includes information sent using secure real-time transfer protocol (sRTP). Supplementary services may include call transfers, forwards/redirects, call hold with music on hold (MOH), call hold with no MoH, call resume, call park, call pickup, call blast etc. In a call flow, a call request may be received from a first device for a second device. The call request may include at least one set of keys and be ready for establishment of an sRTP call. It is then determined that a supplementary service is needed for the call request. For example, a supplementary service may indicate that a call redirect to a third device is required. The gateway then facilitates a supplementary service call with the third device. This is facilitated without contacting the first device to generate a second key after receiving the initial call request.

摘要： The method establishes a number of permanent virtual circuits to be configured on a multiservice access device. At least one of the permanent virtual circuits is configured as an oversubscription (OS PVC). The OS PVC may be configured as a normal PVC with additional parameters. The additional parameters, such as a timer, allow the PVC to assume either an active state or an oversubscription state. It is put into the oversubscription state if the timer expires and there is no traffic during the timer interval. Once in the oversubscription state, the PVC can be activated upon the presence of traffic. The OS PVC may be configured by placing it into a service queue when it has cells to send. The service queue is processed in sequential order until it is empty.

Both V.21 flags and the CM fax signals are detected to determine if a call is a fax call. If a call is from a G3 fax machine, the v.21 flags will be detected. On the other hand if the call is from a SG3 fax machine the CM fax signal will be detected. The method and system therefore detects fax calls and it distinguishes between fax and modem calls in a fax passthrough system.
