    • An apparatus and a method for scheduling in a high-speed portable Internet system are provided to perform packet scheduling operations after dividing the packet scheduling operations into a time-insensitive first scheduling step and a time-sensitive second scheduling step, and selectively apply a scheduling algorithm optimized for supporting a multimedia service, thereby efficiently processing packets. A method for scheduling in a high-speed portable Internet system comprises the following steps of: determining multimedia service types provided by an access point, selecting a predetermined scheduling algorithm according to each multimedia service type, determining a transmission order of packets by applying the selected scheduling algorithm to the packets received from a network, and composing a transmit wait queue according to the determined transmission order; and allocating radio bands to the packets queued in the transmit wait queue, determining the size of transmittable data, generating a PDU(Protocol Data Unit) based on size of the transmittable data, and generating frame data by the combination of the PDUs.

    • PURPOSE: A method of switching an active transport channel of a mobile communication system is provided to perform a switching by using an average value of a TFI(Transport Format Indicator) at a certain time when determining the transport channel switching, thereby supplying a communication service to many service subscribers by reducing system load caused by instant traffic capacity. CONSTITUTION: A mobile communication system sets a minimum value and a maximum value of a TFI threshold value, sets an interval count, and initializes a total TFI(301). The system accumulates transmitting TFIs in the total TFI(302,303,304). The system obtains an average TFI value by averaging the accumulated TFIs(305). The system decides whether the obtained TFI average value is bigger than the minimum value of the predetermined TFI threshold value(306). If smaller, the system confirms whether a currently used transport channel is a DCH(Dedicated Channel)(307). If so, the system transmits a message for converting the channel into an FACH(Forward Access Channel) to an RRC(Radio Resource Controller)(308). If the average value is bigger, the system decides whether the average value is smaller than the maximum value of the TFI threshold value(309). If bigger, the system confirms whether the transport channel is an FACH(310). If so, the system transmits a message for converting the channel into a DCH to the RRC(311).
