    • PURPOSE: An automatic meter reading system for phase detection and a method thereof are provided to simply and inexpensively perform power phase detection and power outage monitoring by an electric power user. CONSTITUTION: An automatic meter reading system(100) for a phase detection includes a watt hour meter(110) and a data concentration unit(120). The watt hour meter synchronizes with a phase detection signal corresponding to the phase of power supplied from a transformer and transmits a phase detection packet. The data concentration unit recognizes a supply power phase signal corresponding to the phase of the supplied power from the transformer by each phase and determines the phase of power supplied to the watt hour meter using the recognized supply power phase signal and the phase detection packet transmitted by the watt hour meter. The watt hour meter includes a phase detection signal generator(111) and a phase detection packet transmitter(112). The phase detection signal generator generates the phase detection signal corresponding to the phase of power supplied from the transformer to the watt hour meter. The phase detection packet transmitter synchronizes with the phase detection signal and transmits the phase detection packet.     • PURPOSE: An underground remote metering system using wired/wireless communication is provided to improve accuracy of a metered data collection procedure and minimize collection time. CONSTITUTION: An underground remote metering system comprises data concentration devices(100a,100b,100c), a wireless collector(200), and a wireless communications modem(220). The data concentration device is installed in a ground transformer and transmits metered data collected from a watt-hour meter of a consumer to an underground high-voltage line section using an FDD(Frequency Division Duplex) power line communication repeating method. The wireless collector comprises the data concentration device and a wireless mesh network. The wireless collector comprises a low rank wireless mesh network with the wireless communication modems mounted on the watt-hour meter of a nearby consumer. The wireless communications modem collects and stores the metered data by periodically communicating with the watt-hour meter of the corresponding consumer. The wireless communications modem transmits the stored metered data to the data concentration device through the wireless collector.
