Retractive switches, compound movement.-In motor controlling and other switches, a single handle is moved in different ways to complete different selected circuits or pairs of circuits at will. According to the invention, the handle 1 is so mounted as to be capable of limited movement about a horizontal axis 5, or limited movement about its own axis of figure, approximately at right angles to the first, or movement compounded of both the' foregoing. The handle is rigidly attached to a cross-piece 32 at the ends of which are slots loosely embracing two switch contact members 13, 18, pivoted on the axis 5 and weighted so as to rest normally upright. Movement of the handle about the axis 5 carries both switch contacts either to the right or left, making circuit either with a pair of stationary contacts 20, 29 or with an opposite pair 21, 28, as shown in Figs. 4 and 5. Alternatively, if the handle is twisted about its axis of figure, it makes circuit with diagonally opposite contacts, as shown in Figs. 6 and 7. By a suitable combined movement, as shown in Fig. 8, any one of the four stationary contacts can be selected. Two handles, each controlling four circuits may be mounted in relation to one axis 5, Fig. 2. Specification 219,033 is referred to.

摘要： In the cleaning of coal by the method of subjecting a mixture of coal and refuse to the action of mechanical jigging and upward air currents on an air pervious support so as to stratify the elements according to density and then separating the layers, the operation is carried out in two or more stages, in the first of which an upper layer of substantially clean coal is removed and discharged, and the lower layer is passed to the second and subsequent stages for further similar treatment. The coal product from the second and subsequent stages may be returned to the first stage so that the clean coal is all delivered at one point. Where, in any of the stages, a middlings product is separated it is returned to the head of the same stage. A modification applicable where the refuse is present in considerable quantities in small sizes, the coal product from the second or subsequent stages may be screened to separate the coal and such small-sized refuse, the coal being returned to the head of the first or any preceding stage. The invention is described as being carried out on apparatus as described in Specifications 290,276 and 292,495, [both in Class 117, Sifting &c.]. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 297,757, 320,207, [both in Class 117, Sifting &c.], and 352,943.

The flue gases may be passed through a scrubber 25 comprising a casing 26 partially filled with loosely packed material 27 supported on a perforated plate 28. Water is supplied from sprays 30 at the top of the casing.
