摘要： A method of making a packaged electrical device comprises the steps of (a) connecting one end of a wire to a first point (e.g., a first electrical node) in the package, and (b) connecting the other end of the wire to a second point (e.g., a second electrical node) in the package, characterized by (c) causing energy from an external source to heat at least one predetermined segment of the wire to a temperature that is below its melting point (MP) but not below its recrystallization temperature (RCT), and (d) cooling the heated segment to a temperature below its RCT [e.g., to room temperature (RT)], thereby to increase the stiffness modulus of the segment. In one embodiment, the external source is a laser whose optical output is absorbed by the segment. In another embodiment, the heated segment is rapidly cooled (i.e., quenched) to RT. In an embodiment suitable for use with IC chips that have a multiplicity of side-by-side wirebonds, apparatus for heating and cooling the segments and/or the IC chips is located on an x-y table, which allows the wirebonds and the apparatus to be scanned sequentially relative to one another. By increasing the stiffness of at least one segment of each wire, our process increases the physical stability of all of the wires and thereby enables finer wires to be utilized in the fabrication of high-density I/O packaged devices.

摘要： The specification describes a plastic cavity package for semiconductor devices that provides additional mechanical integrity for leads that extend from the plastic housing. Portions of the leads that are within the plastic housing are provided with cutouts. When the plastic housing is formed, or when the cavity is filled with polymer, plastic material fills the cutout, and joins to the mass of plastic on either side of the cutout, thus forming a continuous integral mass of plastic. The end result is that the plastic in the cutout, coupled to the main plastic mass, and to the rigid package sidewall, forms an effective anchor against pulling and bending forces the leads may encounter in manufacture or use.

摘要： The present invention provides new platinum group metal (“PGM”) free catalytic compositions that comprise silver and/or cobalt stabilized ceria. These compositions facilitate soot oxidation during the regeneration of diesel particulate filters (DPF) thereby replacing PGM formulations. The compositions of the invention are particularly useful as washcoat compositions for DPFs as part of an automotive after-treatment system. Among the formulations tested, the silver-stabilized ceria and cobalt-stabilized ceria formulations e.g. can oxidize soot at 250–300° C. in the presence of NO2 and oxygen, while silver-stabilized ceria can oxidize diesel soot even in the presence of oxygen as the sole oxidizing agent at these temperatures. A perovshite composition containing Ag—La—Mn was very active at temperatures above 300° C.

LNT catalysts are based on proton-conducting oxides of fluorite structure, namely Ca (Sr)—La—Ce (Zr, Pr) mixed oxides in which up to 40 mol-% of lanthanum is replaced by calcium and/or strontium, and up to 66 mol-% of cerium is replaced by zirconium and/or praseodymium, further combined with Pt—Pd or Pt—Pd—Rh precious metal components. 摘要： A preform for forming a hollow-core, slotted photonic band-gap (PBG) optical fiber for use in an environmental sensor, and methods of forming such a fiber using the preform are disclosed. The preform comprises a slotted cladding tube that surrounds a slotted, hollow-core PBG cane. The slots in the cladding tube and PBG cane are longitudinally formed and substantially aligned with each other. When the preform is drawn, the slots merge to form an elongated side opening or slot in the resulting hollow-core PBG fiber.

摘要： A catalyst composition is provided for use on a diesel particulate filter which facilitates the oxidation of soot from diesel engine exhaust and which generates low NO2 emissions during regeneration of the filter. The catalyst composition includes a catalytic metal comprising a platinum group metal selected from Pt, Pd, Pt—Pd, or combinations thereof, an active metal oxide component containing Cu and La; and an oxide component selected from oxides of Co, Fe, or combinations thereof. The catalyst composition includes a support selected from alumina, silica, zirconia, or combinations thereof. The catalyst composition may be provided on a diesel particulate filter by impregnating the filter with an alumina, silica or zirconia sol solution modified with glycerol and/or saccharose, impregnating the filter with a stabilizing solution, and impregnating the filter with a solution containing the catalyst metal precursor(s), the active metal oxide precursor(s) and the Co or Fe oxide(s). The resulting catalyst coated diesel particulate filter provides effective soot oxidation, exhibits good thermal stability, has a high BET surface area, exhibits minimal backpressure, and produces low NO2 emissions during filter regeneration.

摘要： A filter used to remove particulates from a diesel engine exhaust is regenerated by increasing the exhaust temperature to achieve burn off of the accumulated particulates. Regeneration of the filter is inhibited when the sensed level of fuel in a diesel fuel tank for the engine falls below a first threshold level. Optionally, filter regeneration may be initiated when the sensed fuel level is between the first threshold and a higher threshold, and the load level of particulates accumulated in said filter is above a preselected, relatively high load level. Increase of the exhaust temperature to achieve burn off may be achieved by a variety of techniques, including throttling the intake of said engine, reducing the oxygen content in the exhaust gases delivered to said engine, closing an EGR valve of said engine, or performing post injection of fuel in the engine's combustion cylinders.
