摘要： A method and apparatus for manufacturing an optical cable comprising at least one metal tube housing at least one optical fiber and having a predetermined excess fiber length (EFL) is described. In this method the metal tube is plastically deformed and shortened by a predetermined amount (S t ) greater than the predetermined EFL and is plastically deformed after shortening to provide a controlled elongation thereof so as to reach the predetermined excess fiber length. An optical cable so manufactured has a local excess fiber length (EFL) varying of or less than 0.2% along the longitudinal extension of the cable with respect to an average EFL of the cable.

摘要： An optical cable (100) for communication comprising at least one retaining element (2) blocked with respect to the water propagation as well as a process for manufacturing such an optical cable (100) are described. The optical cable (100) comprises, in addition to the retaining element (2), at least two transmission elements (3) housed within the retaining element (2), and a water swellable yarn (4) housed within the retaining element (2). The water swellable yarn (4) is selected according to the following equation: (I) in which V W is the volume of the water swellable yarn (4) after swelling upon contact with water; Vis the total free volume in the retaining element (2); k is a constant ≥ 180 R is a constant ≥ 1.4; and V t is the free volume per each transmission element (3). Advantageously, the optical cable (100) is water-blocked and the water swellable yarn (4) does not induce microbending effects on the transmission elements (3).

摘要： An optical transmission fiber for use in a metropolitan or access network is disclosed. The transmission line includes a fiber being single mode at a first operating wavelength of around 1310 nm and a second operating wavelength of around 1550 nm. The dispersion of the fiber is negative at one of the first and second operating wavelengths and positive at the other of the first and second operating wavelengths, with an absolute value of between about 5 ps/nm/km and 15 ps/nm/km. The fiber also has a zero dispersion wavelength that is located between the first and second operating wavelengths, and an effective area at a wavelength around 1550 nm greater than about 60 νm2. The cabled fiber has a cutoff wavelength less than about 1300 nm. The fiber allows wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) operation in both the bands (1310 nm and 1550 nm) by reducing nonlinear effects such as four-wave mixing (FWM).

摘要： A cable is described comprising at least one electrical conductor and at least one extruded covering layer including a thermoplastic polymer material in admixture with a dielectric liquid, wherein the thermoplastic polymer material comprises (a) at least 75% by weight, with respect to the total weight of the thermoplastic polymer material, of at least one copolymer of at least two α-olefin co-monomers, the copolymer having a melting enthalpy lower than 25 J/g; and (b) an amount equal to or less than 25% by weight with respect to the total weight of the thermoplastic polymer material of at least one propylene homopolymer or propylene copolymer with at least one a-olefin, the at least one propylene homopolymer or propylene copolymer having a melting enthalpy higher than 25 J/g and a melting point higher than 130°C. According to the invention, the covering layer has a melting enthalpy equal to or lower than 40 J/g, and the concentration by weight of the dielectric liquid in the thermoplastic polymer material is lower than the saturation concentration of the dielectric liquid in the thermoplastic polymer material.

摘要： An electric power cable contains a core and a jacket forming the exterior of the cable. The jacket is formed by extruding a first layer and a second layer over a plurality of concentric neutral elements, substantially encapsulating these elements. At least the first layer is an expanded polymeric material, by having its density reduced through the use of a foaming agent during extrusion. The second layer, which may also be expanded, is extruded around the first layer. The expanded polymeric material makes stripping the jacket easier, minimizes indentations in the cable's insulation layers, lightens the cable, and increases the cable's flexibility.

摘要： The invention relates to a process for manufacturing a self-extinguishing cable comprising at least one transmissive element and at least one flame-retardant coating in a position radially external to said at least one transmissive element, wherein said at least one coating includes an expanded flame-retardant polymeric material comprising:(a) at least one expandable polymer; (b) at least one expanding agent; (c) at least one flame-retardant inorganic filler, in an amount of from 100 parts by weight to 250 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of said at least one expandable polymer; the process comprising the following steps: (i) feeding the flame-retardant polymeric material to an extruding apparatus, therein melting and mixing it; (ii) passing the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (i) through at least one static mixer; (iii) depositing by extrusion the flame-retardant polymeric material obtained in step (ii) onto said at least one transmissive element conveyed to said extruding apparatus. The process of the invention allows to optimise the homogeneity and to maximize the expansion of said flameretardant polymeric material. The cable so obtained is provided with both good mechanical and flame-retardant properties.

摘要： A process for manufacturing a cable which includes a conductor; an inner semiconductive layer surrounding the conductor and having a thickness lower than or equal to 0.4 mm; and an insulating layer surrounding the inner semiconductive layer. The process includes the step of co-extruding the inner semiconductive layer and the insulating layer and includes: a) providing a first annular flow of inner semiconductive material and a second annular flow of insulating material; b) contacting the outer surface of the first annular flow and the inner surface of the second annular flow at an axial distance from the contacting point where the inner surface of the first annular flow contacts the conductor; c) selecting in combination the predetermined feeding speed and the contacting point as a function of the dynamic viscosity of the inner semiconductive material and of the insulating material, so that a ratio between the shear stress of the inner semiconductive layer at the radially inner wall of the extrusion die and the shear stress of the insulating layer at the radially outer wall of the extrusion die, in proximity of the contacting point, is about 0.5 to 4; and d) compression extruding the insulating layer and the inner semiconductive layer onto the conductor.
