    • The present invention relates to a relay apparatus for transmitting ancillary data and to a method for same, and particularly, to a relay apparatus for transmitting ancillary data for a terrestrial digital television broadcast and to a method for same. The apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a relay apparatus for relaying a digital broadcast (DTV) signal containing ancillary data; a receiving and processing unit for receiving the ancillary data and DTV signal via a receiving antenna, down-converting the received signal into an intermediate frequency (IF) signal, and demodulating the IF signal; an equalizing unit for removing noise and a multipath signal from the signal output from the receiving and processing unit, and outputting the resulting signal; an ancillary data extraction unit for extracting the ancillary data from the signal output from the equalizing unit, and outputting the extracted ancillary data; an adder for adding the output from the ancillary data extraction unit to the DTV signal output from the equalization unit; and a transmitting and processing unit for modulating the output from the adder, up-converting the modulated output into a transmitting RF band, amplifying the transmitting power, and transmitting the amplified power via a transmitting antenna.

    • The present invention relates to an on-channel repeating apparatus and method. An embodiment of the present invention provides an on-channel repeating method including: subtracting a replica of a feedback signal from a signal received from a main transmitter or another repeating apparatus; demodulating and equalizing the signal to remove noise, a multipath signal, and the remaining feedback signal from the signal; inserting identification signal having good correlation properties into the signal; modulating the signal; and transmitting the modulated signal. Another embodiment of the present invention provides an on-channel repeating apparatus including: a unit that converts signals received from a main transmitter or another repeating apparatus into signals in a predetermined band; a unit that generates identification signals having good correlation properties; a unit that generates a replica from the signals in the predetermined band and the identification signal, and then removes a feedback signal; a unit that demodulates a signal from which the feedback signal is removed; a unit that equalizes the demodulated signal to remove noise, a multipath signal, and the remaining feedback signal therefrom; a unit that inserts the identification signal into the equalized signal; and a unit that modulates the signal having the identification signal inserted thereinto and transmits the modulated signal. According to the present invention, the repeating apparatus repeats output signals that have a small time delay and whose distortion is corrected. Therefore, it is possible to improve the utilization of limited frequency sources, and reduce investment in achieving a repeating apparatus.

The on-channel repeater includes : a receiver for receiving radio frequency (RF) signals and converting them into baseband signals; a subtractor for subtracting replicas of feedback signals from the baseband signals to thereby produce signals whose feedback signals are primarily removed; a demodulator for demodulating the signals which include the remaining feedback signals; an equalizer for equalizing the demodulated signals to thereby produce equalized signals; a transmitter for modulating the equalized signals to thereby produce modulated signals, converting the modulated signals into RF signals, and transmitting the RF signals in the air; a down-converter for down-converting the RF signals into baseband signals; and a replica generator for calculating the replicas based on the baseband signals of the down- converter and the signals without feedback signals of the subtractor, and feeding back them to the subtractor.
