    • 1,255,369. Coffee percolators. NATIONAL PRESTO INDUSTRIES Inc. Nov.20, 1969 [July 15, 1969], No.56939/69. Heading A4D. A fountain-type percolator comprises a liquid container 16, Fig. having therein a hollow tube 22, supporting a perforated container 24 for the material to be decocted, and a liquid pump which comprises a well 47 in the bottom 17 of container 16 and a pump member 10 having a wall 30, Fig. 3, which with the well defines a pump well chamber 18, an opening for receiving tube 22 being provided in member 10, means thermally associated with the walls of well 47 supplying heat to chamber 18, and chamber 18 communicating with container 16 through a passage 45, closeable by a valve 74 when the pressure in chamber 18 is greater than that in passage 45 whereby a liquid slug in chamber 18 is formed up tube 22, and through a by-pass passage (66), Fig. 8 (not shown) to feedback a selected portion of each slug to container 16 to thereby control the strength of the brew. Passage 45 is formed by apertures 68 and 70 in a control member 32 and a top part 36 of wall 30 respectively. By-pass passage (66) is formed by apertures (82) and (84), Fig. 6 (not shown), in member 32 and wall part 36 respectively, member 32 being rotatable about tube 22 to align a selected number of apertures (82) each with an aperture (84) for varying the portion of each liquid slug by-passing tube 22. A dimple (86), Fig. 8 (not shown) locates in one of apertures (82) for ensuring positive alignment. A thermostatically controlled electric heater 28 is located around well 47 and a keepwarm heater (80) is located under the bottom 17 of container 16.
