    • A cabinet door collapses and slides into a concealed position inside a door compartment of a cabinet. The door has a first wing which is pivotally connected to a second wing and to a vertical door-supporting bar which travel insides the door compartment. The second wing is guided by carriages running in upper and lower continuous guideways that extend inside the door compartment. A device for moving the door-supporting bar includes a stationary toothed belt inside the door compartment, a toothed wheel and guide pulleys carried by the door-supporting bar. The toothed wheel is operatively connected to a torsion spring inside the door-supporting bar. A locking device locks the toothed wheel, when the door wings are in a coplanar closed position, and releases the toothed wheel, when they are in a parallel open position.

    • A method of configuring an optical network terminal, ONT, of a wavelength division multiplexed passive optical network, WDM PON. Sequentially setting a transmission wavelength of a tunable optical filter at the ONT to one or more wavelengths of a pre-selected plurality of transmission wavelengths until a wavelength is identified for which no downstream optical signal from an optical line terminal of the WDM PON is detected. Determining whether a transmitter operable at said identified transmission wavelength is present at the OLT and is available to be assigned to communicate with the ONT. If a transmitter is determined to be present and available, maintaining the transmission wavelength of the tunable optical filter at transmission wavelength and assigning the ONT to the OLT as a subscriber at said identified transmission wavelength. If a transmitter is determined to be one of not present and not available, recommencing the method.

    • This disclosure relates to wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) passive optical networks (PON), and the transmission of point-to-point and broadcast or multicast channels from an optical line transmitter (OLT) to an optical network unit (ONU). There is provided a WDM PON (100) comprising: an OLT (105) coupled to a plurality of ONU (110a, 110b) using an optical fibre network (160); the OLT (105) having one or more WDM transceivers (115a, 115b) each arranged to receive multi-cast and point-to-point channels and wherein the or each WDM transceiver (115a, 115b) is arranged to transmit a said channel to a respective said ONU (110a, 110b) using a respective dedicated wavelength (λa, λb); an input channel switch (130a, 130b) associated with the or each WDM transceiver (115a, 115b) and arranged to selectively couple the input of the WDM transceiver to the multi-cast channels and the point-to-point channels (140,135); wherein the selected multi-cast or point-to-point channels are directly converted to the respective dedicated wavelength.

    • An iterative method for power pre-emphasis of N optical channels in a Wavelength Division Multiplex (WDM) signal in an optical communication systems in accordance with which representative Xi characteristics are defined for the channels with among the characteristics there being included at least one characteristic that is a function of the Bit Error Rate (BER). The method including the iterative phases of running through the WDM signal channels and appraising for each channel said characteristics for the channel and for the channels adjacent thereto; comparing said channel characteristics with the homologous characteristics of the adjacent channels and, based on the results of the comparisons, selecting a predetermined action to be performed on the power transmitted on the ith channel; for all the channels, performing on the power of each the corresponding selected action; calculating a metric quality function of all the channels with the new powers changed with the selected actions and repeating the previous iterative phases from the beginning until the quality improvement is greater than a predetermined figure and/or a predetermined maximum number of iterations is reached.
