摘要： The disclosure relates to a die assembly. The die assembly includes a die housing having a plurality of inner wall sections defining a die cavity, an inlet passageway passing through the die housing in fluid communication with the die cavity, and an outlet passageway passing through the die housing in fluid communication with the die cavity at a position distal from the inlet passageway. The die assembly also includes an insert removably received in the die cavity. The insert includes a body portion having a plurality of outer wall sections, and at least one flow channel is formed between at least one inner wall section of the die housing and each opposite outer wall section of the body portion of the insert. The die assembly includes a means for providing fluid communication between the external supply of fluent material and each of the at least one flow channel and the outlet passageway. The means for providing fluid communication may include a first conduit passing through at least part of the body portion of the insert in fluid communication between the inlet passageway and the outlet passageway, and a second conduit passing through the die housing in fluid communication with each flow channel and the outlet passageway. The first and second conduits may each be adapted to selectively connect to the external supply of fluent material. Also provided is a die insert for use within a die, and a method of purging gas from a die having an insert.

摘要： Dimensionally stable fire-resistant fibrous structures including fire-resistant melt-blown nonwoven fibers, and processes and apparatus for producing such dimensionally stable, fire-resistant nonwoven fibrous structures. The melt-blown fibers include poly(phenylene sulfide) in an amount sufficient for the nonwoven fibrous structures to pass one or more fire-resistance test selected from UL 94 V0, FAR 25.853 (a), and FAR 25.856 (a), without any halogenated flame-retardant additive in the nonwoven fibrous structure. The melt-blown fibers are subjected to a controlled in-flight heat treatment at a temperature below a melting temperature of the poly(phenylene sulfide) immediately upon exiting from at least one orifice of a melt-blowing die, in order to impart dimensional stability to the fibers. The nonwoven fibrous structures including the in-flight heat treated melt-blown fibers exhibit a Shrinkage less than a Shrinkage measured on an identically-prepared structure including only fibers not subjected to the controlled in-flight heat treatment operation, and generally less than 15%.

摘要： Nonwoven fibrous webs including a multiplicity of discrete fibers, a population of sub-micrometer fibers having a population median diameter less than one micrometer adjoining the discrete fibers, and a multiplicity of chemically active particulates secured to the nonwoven fibrous web. In some embodiments, more than 0% and less than 10% wt. of the nonwoven fibrous web is made of discrete fibers that are thermoplastic polymeric fibers, and which optionally at least partially melt and coalesce to secure the discrete polymeric fibers to each other. In certain embodiments, at least some of the particulates are bonded to the thermoplastic polymeric fibers. In other embodiments, at least some of the particulates are secured within interstices of the fibrous web, without substantial bonding to the discrete fibers. Methods of making and using such nonwoven fibrous webs are also described.
