The borate and boronate compounds are effective as antiwear, extreme pressure, and friction modifying additives for lubricating oils and fuels.

摘要： The retainer (20) of the present invention is made of a composite material having a body made from a polymer, a layer of solid lubricant formed over the body by chemically coating the body with a porous layer of solid lubricant and impregnating the solid lubricant with another lubricant using conventional methods such as vacuum impregnation. The retainer (20) is placed between an outer raceway (32) and an inner raceway (34) to form a self-lubricating bearing (30). The bearing (30) made in this manner has high lubrication tolerance (i.e. it performs well in the absence of external lubrication). Because of its high lubrication tolerance, the bearing is suitable for use in various applications such as dental/medical hand pieces that are periodically sterilized and other applications which occasionally experience periods of lubrication starvation.

The threaded joint for an oil well pipe can prevent the occurrence of galling in repeated make-up and break-out operations and at the same time secure high oil-tightness, with no use of a liquid lubricating agent such as a compounded grease.

The content of molybdenum originating in the dithiocarbamate, that of phosphorus originating in the dithiophosphate, that of the sulfur originating in the sulfur compounds, that of the detergent, and that of the boron originating in the boron compounds are 200-2,000 ppm, 0.02-0.15 wt.%, 0.02-0.30 wt.%, 1-10 wt.%, and 0.005-0.06 wt.%, respectively, based on the whole composition. The composition is excellent in oxidation resistance, does not undergo deterioration caused by nitrogen oxide gases, and can retain the effect of lowering the friction of engines for long.

摘要： A biodegradable lubricant which is prepared from: about 60-99 % by weight of at least one biodegradable synthetic ester base stock which comprises the reaction product of: a branched or linear alcohol having the general formula R(OH)n, wherein R is an aliphatic or cyclo-aliphatic group having from about 2 to 20 carbon atoms and n is at least 2; and mixed acids comprising about 30 to 80 molar % of a linear acid having a carbon number in the range between about C5 to C12, and about 20 to 70 molar % of at least one branched acid having a carbon number in the range between about C5 to C10 and wherein no more than 10 % of the branched acids used to form the biodegrdable synthetic ester base stock contains a quaternary carbon; wherein the ester base stock exhibits the following properties: at least 60 % biodegradation in 28 days as measured by the Modified Sturm test; a pour point of less than -25 DEG C; a viscosity of less than 7500 cps at -25 DEG C; and oxidative stability of up to 45 minutes as measured by HPDSC.
