    • The present invention describes a system and a method for distributing channel port loading functionality in a radio base station (51). The radio base station (51) has a plurality of transceivers (53-59) and at least one frequency agile combiner (61). The transceivers (53-59) have a plurality of channel ports (67-83) each able to transceive either one of at least two channel functions each having corresponding higher or lower loading averages. The method has steps of averaging loading of each channel port (67-83) over a predetermined period of time, identifying and seizing the channel port having lower average loading, reconfiguring the identified and seized channel port to the channel function having the higher loading average, letting adjust the frequency agile combiner (61) accordingly and transferring the communication having higher loading average on the reconfigured channel port. The system has a module (60) for determining the loading average of each channel port over a predetermined period of time, a module (62) for identifying and seizing the channel port having lower loading average, and a device (72) for reconfiguring the channel ports identified and seized to the channel functions having higher loading average, and for transferring one of the communications having higher loading average to the channel port reconfigured.

    • The disclosed system is capable of allocating plural subchannels based on user data priority. In one embodiment, after receiving a system parameter such as a current priority level from a base station (110), a subscriber (100) determines whether to send an access request for plural subchannels. Upon receipt of the access request(s), the system determines from the access request(s) whether to allocate the subchannel(s) to the subscriber. Further access requests are received periodically and scheduled, and when a higher priority message is received, completion of a lower priority message is deffered and the higher priority request allocated. Thus, an improved access procedure is provided accommodating multiple priority requests in an efficient manner. In a further embodiment, the system parameters include persistence/probability values for each service priority level, and each transmitting unit applies the appropriate value for the data priority to be sent in determining when to send an access request.

    • The invention relates to a method for determining an urgency class of a disturbance occurred in a base station, in which method it is maintained in the memory means a list about the disturbances that can emerge in the function of the base station and about the preliminary urgency classes determined for the disturbances concerned. To enable a more accurate urgency class it is searched out from the memory means a preliminary urgency class (B) corresponding to the disturbance in question and the alarm urgency class is conditioned with the communications situation (C - E) of the base station by determining a less urgent class (G) than the preliminary class for the alarm, if the communications situation of the base station is peaceful, and by determining for the alarm a more urgent class (F) than the preliminary urgency class, if the communications situation of the base station is busy.

    • A base station communicates with a plurality of mobile stations over a cellular network. In one embodiment, the base station includes a receiver configured to receive inbound information from the mobile station and a transmitter configured to transmit outbound information to the mobile station. The base station further has a central processor that includes a signal processor array. The signal processor architecture is designed to increase the throughput and task-based allocation of processing resources. The signal processing array has both series and parallel signal processing elements. A plurality of signal processor elements are disposed in series to form a signal processing string. A plurality of signal processing strings are disposed in parallel. Each of the signal processor strings includes at least two signal processor elements that are each dedicated to performing a specific task. As a result, the parallel processor strings simultaneously process information corresponding to predetermined criteria, such as TDMA time slots, while the series processors sequentially process that information by an efficient task-based pipeline processing. A preferred protocol is Global Systems for Mobile Communication (GSM).

    • The invention relates to a transcoder (TRCU1, TRCU2) having means for preventing tandem coding of speech in a mobile to mobile (MS1, MS2) call within a mobile communication system which employs a speech coding method for reducing transmission rate on the radio path. The transcoder (TRCU1, TRCU2) comprises a speech coder (52, 73) which encodes the speech signal into speech parameters for transmission to a mobile station, and decodes the speech parameters received from the mobile station into a speech signal according to said speech coding method, as well as a PCM coder (54, 72) for transmitting an uplink speech signal to and for receiving a downlink speech signal from a PCM interface in the form of PCM speech samples. In addition to the normal operation, the transcoder transmits and receives speech parameters through a PCM interface in a subchannel formed by least significant bits of the PCM speech samples. Thus, it is possible to prevent tandem coding but at the same time maintain the standard PCM interface and the signallings and services associated thereto.
