    • A hierarchical traffic control system is disclosed. The traffic control system comprises a primary controller. The primary controller receives information about traffic in an area. The system further includes a plurality of subsidiary controllers. The subsidiary controllers provide information to and receive information from the primary controller. Each of the plurality of subsidiary controllers is associated with a cell within the area. Each of the subsidiary controllers receives and provides information to at least one vehicle concerning traffic conditions within its associated cell. The primary controller and each of the subsidiary controllers are capable of negotiating a change in the flow of traffic based upon traffic conditions. In the present invention, at least one vehicle includes roles and permission sets. The traffic control system can then determine the appropriate route for the vehicle based upon the roles and permission sets.

Lastly, the transmission is adjusted according to the signal generated by the data processor.

    • A system for sensing speed of other vehicles without the use of radar or laser is presented. It uses interferometric techniques to passively compute another vehicle's speed.     • An apparatus and method for monitoring traffic comprises a plurality of vehicles fitted with units. Each unit comprises a CPU, a timer and a GPS device. Whenever a vehicle passes a waypoint determined by the GPS device, the CPU notes the time supplied by the timer. When the vehicle passes the next waypoint determined by the GPS device, the CPU notes the time again. The CPU substracts the two times to derive the actual journey time for the link between the two waypoints, and this is compared against a stored link-time for the link. If the actual journey time is greater by a preset amount than the stored link-time, then the unit transmits the relevant information to a control computer by way of a communication device. In addition to notifying the control computer when the vehicle has exceeded a standard time for the link between the waypoints, the unit can monitor the progress of the vehicle along the link by monitoring its progress along sublinks using a technique known as nullmicro-pointingnull.

A pressure command signal is detected and a pressure command derivative over time is obtained.
