    • 1422828 Moulding elastomeric containers GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO 10 July 1973 [11 Aug 1972] 32735/73 Heading B5A In a method of building a container having an access opening, e.g. a fuel cell, a destructible form is coated with a plastics film to form a flexible envelope thereon, a layer of release agent applied to the film, and an elastomeric container is built up on the thus coated form; the form is then destroyed and removed from the container by pulling the flexible envelope, containing the destroyed form, out through the access opening in the container. The method ensures that the inside of the container is clean and free from scaps of form material. In one example, a cardboard form with a flexible polyurethane envelope thereon is coated with polyethylene as a release agent and then used to form a polyurethane container by spraying. Successive layers of polyurethane, nylon (to form an impervious barrier layer) polyurethane, fabric reinforcement, and finally polyurethane are applied, the container cured, and the form destroyed by first soaking in water and then breaking up by blows from a rubber mallet. The envelope containing the fragments of form material was then removed from the container. In a second example, a plaster of Paris form is provided with a polyurethane envelope and a release coat of sugar and water and then used to produce a fuel cell by laying up of acrylonitrile butadiene rubber calendered nylon fabric, a sealing layer of natural rubber being provided between two of the layers. The form is broken up as in the first example and then removed. In addition to polyurethane, the flexible envelope may be of p.v.c. or rubber, and the barrier layer may be polyvinylidene chloride.

    • A machine for automatically stripping thin, flexible molded products from their molds on a continuously moving conveyor comprises, in essence, a movable array of arm pairs for clamping onto the molds, each arm having a pair of fingers for clamping onto a cuff or bead at the bottom of the molded product. The array of arms is attached to a movable carriage on a track parallel to the conveyor. A pneumatically actuated piston rod raises and lowers the array. Mechanical drive means are provided for engaging the carriage when the arm pairs are centered over the molds and for driving it at the same speed at the conveyor. As the carriage moves, it activates a series of switches which lower the array, clamp the arms onto the molds, clamp the fingers onto the beads, spread the arms again, and raise the array. A shuttle platform is driven under the raised array, and the stripped products are released. The carriage and the shuttle are then returned to their initial positions for a repetition of the cycle.

    • 1,231,111. Moulding plastic substances. L. JUNGFER, [trading as AKKUMULATORENFABRIK DR. LEOPOLD JUNGFER]. 31 Jan., 1969 [11 Nov., 1968], No. 5330/69. Heading B5A. A plastics powder is fed from a hopper 8 on to an endless conveyer belt 6 which passes through a furnace 10 whereby the powder is sintered and adheres to the belt and passes over a drum 5 and through a cooling duct 11 located below the furnace; as the sintered strip passes through the duct it becomes detached from the belt and is then supported by the upper run 12a of a further endless belt 12. On leaving the outlet 11a of the duct the strip is formed into a loop 15a and received by guide surfaces 21, 22 and fed through rollers 23 to cutters 24 which divide the strip longitudinally and then through rollers 25 to cutters 28 which out the strip transversely. The plates thus produced slide on to a transverse conveyer 30. A housing 17 is connected to the furnace and surrounds the conveyer drum 5 and the inlet end of the cooling duct 11, and a suction fan 19 draws cooling air through the duct and carries fumes from the furnace.
