    • During machining of workpieces (10) in a metal working machine the workpieces are held by a holding device (1) in the form of a vice. The vice hereby comprises two or more separate holding elements (2) which are shaped to be able to be arranged one after the other in a foundation (3, 5). The holding elements (2) comprise a first, displaceable jaw (7) and a second, fixed jaw (9), whereby the respective gripping faces (17, 19) of the jaws (7, 9) for workpieces are arranged on opposite sides (6, 8) on a holding element (2). When a similar machining of several workpieces shall take place, several holding elements (2) are arranged, according to one method, along the foundation (3, 5), and workpieces are clamped between the holding elements and are subjected to machining. At this a machining of a first workpiece arranged in the holding device (1) can be repeated when machining of a second workpiece arranged in the holding device, and so on, until all workpieces, which are arranged in the holding device, have been machined in an intended way, i.e. the metal working machine, which preferably is in the form of a CNC machine or an other numerically controlled machine, can repeat its working operation without needing to return to an initial position and thus carry out its entire work cycle. Further, the metal working machine can thus repeat its working operation avoiding interruptions for changing workpieces and resetting the machine.
