    • A device for gripping or locking a rope or wire (20) comprises a pair of rope engaging members or jaw members (16, 17) defining a pair of oppositely arranged wire engaging surfaces (18, 19) forming a passageway for the rope. The jaw members (16, 17) are mounted in the frame (10) of the gripping device by means of a swinging link suspension including a pair of swinging links (22,23). The jaw members (16,17) are suspended so that the frictional forces acting between the rope and the jaw members cause displacement of the rope engaging surfaces thereon in mutual parallel relationship towards each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope in a first direction, while the rope engaging surfaces are displaced away from each other, when a pulling force is applied to the rope or wire in a second opposite direction. This means that the rope (20) is pinched between the rope engaging surfaces (18,19). when the rope is pulled in the said first direction, and released, when pulled in said second direction. The jaw members may comprise a first jaw member (16) having a U-shaped cross-section with an inner bottom surface defining a first rope engaging surface (18), and a second jaw member (17) displaceably received within the first jaw member (16). Corresponding swinging links (22,23) suspending said first and second jaw members may be mounted pivotally about a common axis (24,25) and define an angle (V) therebetween, and these swinging members (22,23) are preferably formed as an integral part. The jaw members may be moved to a rope releasing position by means of an operating handle (31).

    • A securing mechanism for a shackle (10) having a pair of opposed legs (14,16) with an opening at one end of each of the pair of opposed legs to form a pair of opposed openings (18,20). The securing mechanism includes a shackle bolt (24) having a head at one end and a circumferential groove (30) near an opposed end wherein the shackle bolt is received through the pair of opposed openings in the shackle. A two piece hinged clamp assembly (40) is received in the circumferential groove in order to retain the shackle bolt in the shackle. A retainer pin (54,84) is received in an opening in the two piece clamp assembly to hold the two piece clamp assembly in a closed position. A retainer clip (56) surrounds the retainer pin. A lock pin (60,90) through the two piece clamp assembly retains the retainer pin in the two piece clamp.

    • A cleat has cam (6) which in the first configuartion is constrained by lever (4) which is pivoted at pivot (5) from housing (3) such that cam (6) grips rope between its surface and that of the base in housing (3). Lever (4) may be rotated to an extent such that cam (6) and cam axis (7) move away and release rope (1) in the second configuration. Lever (4) may then be rotated in the opposite direction to move cam (6) and cam axis (7) back towards rope (1) to return to the first configuration. The mechanical relationship between the movement of lever (4) and its geometry restraining cam (6) to grip rope, enables rope (1), for a range of different cross-sectional rope diameters, to be released easily at comparatively high applied loads on rope (1). Movement between both the first and the second configurations may be achieved at a distance from or close to the cleat by controlled movement of the rope emerging from housing (3).

    • A clamp for a cable (12) having a housing (20) with a first end, a second end, and an interior cavity (24) to receive the cable (12). The clamp also includes a jaw assembly (34) having a notch. The jaw assembly (34) moves between locked and triggered positions within the cavity (24). A biasing member (38) is disposed within the cavity (24) to bias the jaw assembly (34) towards the triggered position. A retainer (40) is arranged within the cavity (24) and has gripping fingers (48) to engage the notches in the locked position. A trigger (60) is positioned within the cavity (24). The trigger has an outer locking portion (66) to engage with the gripping fingers (48) to releasably secure the gripping fingers (48) in the notches to retain the jaw assembly (34) in the locked position. When the cable (12) is inserted into the interior cavity (24) and contacts the trigger device (60), the gripping fingers (48) and notches disengage so that the biasing member (38) biases the jaw assembly (34) towards the first end of the clamp to clamp the cable (12).
