    • An annular heat exchanger (10) suitable for a gas turbine engine comprises a first continuous sheet of material (12) arranged in a spiral and a second continuous sheet of material (14) arranged in a spiral. A first axially extending passage (40) is defined between the first surface (16) of the first sheet (12) and the third surface (20) of the second sheet (14) and a second axially extending passage (46) is defined between the second surface (18) of the first sheet (12) and the fourth surface of the second sheet (14). The first passage (40) is closed at its axial ends by spiral seals between the first sheet (12) and the second sheet (14). The second passage (46) is open at its axial ends. A plurality of radially extending passages (42) and (44) are provided to supply a first fluid at a first end into the first passage (40), to remove the first fluid from a second end of the first passage (40) and to interconnect adjacent turns of the first passage (40). The passages (42) and (44) extend radially through the second passage (46).

Then sealing the edges (32.34) of the first surface (16) of the first continuous sheet of material (12) to the edges (36.38) of the third surface (20) of the second continuous sheet of material (14). Then sealing the apertures of the first set of apertures (24) in the first continuous sheet of material (12) to the apertures in the third set of apertures (28) in the second continuous sheet of material (14) and sealing the apertures of the second set of apertures .

    • A coiled heat exchanger and a method of making a coiled heat exchanger including a pair of sheets coiled together to form a core having opposite faces. A first sheet has at least one edge extending substantially coplanar with the sheet. A second sheet has at least one edge having alternating portions along the edge being respectively raised and unraised with respect to the plane of the sheet such that when the sheets are coiled together the at least one edge of the second sheet is configured to abut portions of the at least one edge of the first sheet at locations corresponding to the alternating raised portions. These edges and their alternately abutting portions form openings in the form of angular sectors on a face of the core that are configured to pass fluid therethrough.
