    • A protection device for monitoring current in a power cable to an electrical device and for controlling a remotely located starter for the electrical device in response to a system controller. The device includes a transformer magnetically linked with the power cable to produce a voltage signal in response to the presence of a changing current within the power cable. An input circuit located in a single housing together with the transformer is electrically connected to the transformer so as to receive the voltage signal. The input circuit produces, in response to the voltage signal, either a first signal or a first circuit condition at the output terminal of the input circuit, representative of the changing current in the power cable. A switch circuit also in the same container with the transformer has a terminal for sensing either a second signal or a second circuit condition of the remotely located system controller. The switch circuit has a second terminal to provide either a third signal or a third circuit condition effective to control the starter, in response to sensing one of the second signal and the second circuit condition. All of the transformer, the input circuit, and the switch circuit are located in a single unitary package which is easily mounted and adjusted to a desired position.

    • A REMOTE CONTROL CIRCUIT BREAKER SYSTEM IN WHICH AN ELECTRONIC LOGIC UNIT IS BUILT INTO A MAIN ELECTROMAGNETICALLY OPERATED CIRCUIT BREAKER TO ACT AS THE CONTROLLING INTERFACE BETWEEN THE LATTER AND REMOTELY LOCATED PILOT CONTROL-CIRCUIT BREAKER UNIT. IN ADDITION TO DIRECTING MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER OPERATION TO PROVIDE CLOSING AND OPENING OF THE SAME IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH THE OPERATION OF THE PILOT UNIT, THE LOGIC UNIT RESPONDS ON OVERLOAD TRIP OPEN OF THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER TO SUBJECT THE PILOT UNIT TO A CONTROLLED VALUE OF SIMULATED OVERLOAD CURRENT AS WILL CAUSE THE LATTER TO TRIP OPEN AND AFFORD INDICATION OF THE OCCURENCE OF OVERLOAD TRIPPING IN THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER. THE LOGIC UNIT ALSO AFFORDS COORDINATION OF A PLURALITY OF SUCH CIRCUIT BREAKERS IN A MULTIPHASE A.C SYSTEM SO THAT ALL WILL BE RESPONSIVE TO THE OPERATION OF A SINGLE REMOTE PILOT UNIT, AND WILL ALSO TRIP OPEN FOLLOWING OVERLOAD RESPONSE OF ANY THEREOF. FURTHER THE LOGIC UNIT AUTOMATICALLY FUNCTIONS IN THE EVENT OF A FAULT OCCURRING IN THE PILOT UNIT OR THE LINE CONNECTING IT WITH THE MAIN BREAKER TO LIMIT THE VALUE OF FAULT TO A NON-DESTRUCTIVE VALUE, AND PREVENT REPEATED CIRCUIT BREAKER CYCLING IN THE EVENT THE PILOT BREAKER FAILS TO OPEN. THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER USES DOUBLE-BREAK CONTACTS AND PERMANENT MAGNET LATCHING TO IMPROVE ITS ARC RUPTURE WITHSTABILITY AND ELIMINATE THE NECESSITY OF CONTINUOUS ENERGIZATION OF ITS ELECTROMAGNETIC OPERATING COILS. THE OVERLOAD TRIP MECHANISM IN THE MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER USES A LOW FRICTION LATCH, AND TOGETHER WITH AMBIENT TEMPERATURE COMPENSATION IN THE BIMETAL LATCH RELEASE ENCHANCES THE TRIP POINT PRECISION.

    • PURPOSE:To automatically detect the disconnection fault of an input circuit by detecting on-off state signals by binary electric current signals. CONSTITUTION:The figure is an external input circuit to be inputted to a sequence controller SQC, and a switch element SW is, for example, a limit switch. The waveforms of the signal Si of the case in which the contactor al of the switch SW is connected to on side and of the case in which it is connected to off side are shown in the figure. In the off state, the AC waveform is half-wave rectified because of a diode D1. However, when there is disconnection in the input circuit, the signal S1 goes to zero, from which the fault is detected automatically.
