    • A method and apparatus for composing and performing music on an electronic instrument in which individual chord progression chords can be triggered in real-time, while simultaneously making the individual notes of the chord, and/or possible scale and non-scale notes to play along with the chord, available for playing in separate fixed-locations on the instrument. The method of composition involves the designation of a chord progression section on the instrument, then assigning chords or individual chord notes to this chord progression section according to the defined customary scale or customary scale equivalent of a song key. Further, as each chord is played in the chord progression section, the individual notes of the currently triggered chords are simultaneously made available for playing in separate fixed locations on the instrument. Fundamental and alternate notes of each chord may be made available for playing in separate fixed locations for composing purposes. Possible scale and/or non-scale notes to play along with the currently triggered chord, may also be simultaneously made available for playing in separate fixed locations on the instrument. All composition data can be stored in memory or on a storage device, and can later be retrieved and performed by a user from a fixed location on the instrument. The composition data may also be performed from a reduced number of input controllers. Further, multiple instruments of the present invention can be utilized together to allow interaction among multiple users during composition and/or performance, with no knowledge of music theory required.

    • Electronic tone transposition apparatus in an organ allows the front digitals of the keyboard to play different musical scales and to play the diatonic scale in different keys. The apparatus physically actuates a key signature of written music by interchanging the electrical coupling to a front digital with the coupling to its adjacent back digital. The number of such interchanges is equal to the number of flats or sharps in the key signature. The organ can be electronically switched so that the front digitals of the keyboard play different musical scales with different numbers of tones per octave span.

    • The musical instrument has a keyboard which may be arranged to have either seven or five lower digitals per octave span. The musical tones are electrically keyed by means of digital switches. A scale selector switch changes the connections between the digital switches and the tone generator circuits so that either the seven tone diatonic scale or a pentatonic scale is played on consecutive lower digitals of the keyboard.The top parts of the upper digitals are easily removable and interchangeable. Most of the upper digitals are black. When the keyboard is arranged for playing in a pentatonic scale, the E.music-sharp. upper digital in each octave is white, serving as a landmark for the player. When the keyboard is arranged for playing in the diatonic scale, the inactive E.music-sharp. and B.music-sharp. digitals are white.

    • A method for the use of the white keys of a musical keyboard such as a MIDI keyboard for the playing a selected scale whereby all while keys of the keyboard are remapped to the selected scale such that adjacent keys of the keyboard can be used to play adjacent notes of the selected scale. There is also disclosed a method for providing a functional aspect to at least one black key of a musical keyboard such as a MIDI keyboard, wherein upon a key of the keyboard being pressed, a first check is conducted to determine if a user has activated the selected scale setting; and if the selected scale function has been activated, a second check is conducted to determine if the key is a black key or a white key. If the key is a black key a second lookup table is checked based on a MIDI message for the black key to determine a corresponding functional aspect corresponding to the black key.
