摘要： A machine tool spindle is supported at its spindle nose in a front, rolling element mechanical anti-friction thrust and radial support bearing means. The middle and rear end of the spindle is supported in a magnetic radial rear bearing and further supported at a generally mid-position of the spindle by magnetic radial mid bearing. The two magnetic radial bearings provide radial suspension of the spindle and permit the spindle to slide freely. A spindle flange is axially forced by a magnetic axial thrust bearing to vary the pre-load of the mechanical anti-friction thrust and radial support bearing.

摘要： A method and a device for adapting a bearing clearance in a ceramic-hybrid bearing having rolling elements in the form of balls or rollers made from a ceramic material and an outer and an inner bearing shell made from ferromagnetic material. In order to be in a position to adapt the bearing clearance also during operation, a magnetic flux is introduced into an outer side of the stationary, non-rotating bearing shell and exits again at the opposite outer side of the bearing shell, with a magnetic field and an associated magnetic flux being generated, and that a deformation of the bearing shell in the sense of a decrease or increase in the circumference of the bearing shell is brought about due to the resulting magnetostrictive effect from a change in the magnetic flux.

摘要： A spindle motor for use in a disk drive includes a spindle motor base and a motor shaft. The motor shaft has a central axis. The spindle motor includes a spindle motor hub rotatably coupled to the spindle motor base, the spindle motor hub including a central magnetic metal portion disposed adjacent a distal end of the motor shaft. The spindle motor includes a ball bearing set disposed between and in mechanical communication with the spindle motor hub and the motor shaft for rotatably coupling the spindle motor hub to the spindle motor base. The spindle motor includes a shaft magnetic element attached to the motor shaft at the distal end adjacent the central magnetic metal portion, the shaft magnetic element being sized and configured to apply an attractive magnetic force to the central magnetic metal portion in a direction along the central axis for pre-loading the ball bearing set.
