    • A method and apparatus for manufacturing metallic strip (20) with a varying thickness is described. The metallic strip is particularly for use as part of a windscreen wiper blade assembly. Feedstock (14) having a constant thickness and width is passed in a cold condition through a pair of opposed forming rollers (16, 16) and the separation of the rollers is varied thereby deforming the feedstock in a varying manner along the length thereof to provide formed strip with a varying thickness. The rollers (16, 16) have parallel axes with one axis being fixed and the other axis being displaced back and forth. The thickness of the formed strip varies in a ratio of 3:1. The formed strip is heat treated in a varying manner. The amount of power supplied to heat the strip varies in accordance with the thickness of the strip. A preferred roller arrangement (15) has a pair of rollers with each roller being supported by bearings located intermediate its ends to provide an exposed end portion, with the rollers being offset and with the end portions overlapping. The overlapping end portions define a rolling region between them.
