摘要： This invention relates to improved rosin sizes, and to improved methods for preparing sized paper. 摘要： 1380182 Aqueous polymer-based coating compositions TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 23 May 1972 [23 June 1971] 24236/72 Heading C3P An aqueous coating composition comprises 10-70 wt. per cent of a water-insoluble resinous binder which is a water insoluble synthetic addition polymer obtained by the vinyl polymerization of monoethylenically unsaturated molecules, an oleoresinous binder, or a condensation polymer and mixtures thereof, and as thickener 0À01-2À0% by wt. based on the composition weight, of a hydroxyalkyl ether of a galactomannan gum in which the hydroxyalkyl group has 2-6 carbon atoms and the gum has a degree of substitution of 0À1 to 3À0, the degree of substitution being the average number of hydroxyl groups per anhydrohexose unit. The preferred thickener is the hydroxy ethyl ether of guar gum but other gums such as locust bean, honey locust and flame tree gum may also be used as their hydroxy alkyl derivatives. In the examples hydroxyethyl ethers of guar gum of varying degrees of substitution are used with binders which are (1) a vinyl acetate copolymer, (2) an ethyl acrylate/methyl methacrylate/ acrylic acid copolymer and (3) a vinyl acetate/ ethyl acrylate copolymer. Other ingredients commonly used in aqueous coating compositions are also present, such as pigments, defoamers, colloids and small amounts of organic solvents as well as the water.

A composition for stabilizing P.V.C. comprises (a) a barium complex obtained by reacting (i) a C 10 -C 18 aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or an alkyl monophenol having 1-4 C 3 -C 18 alkyl groups (ii) 0.5-10 equivalent (per equivalent of (i)) of a C 1 -C 12 aliphatic alcohol and (iii) 1À1-5 equivalents of barium oxide or hydroxide and treating the mixture with carbon dioxide to reduce the basicity, (b) 0.1-1 part by wt. (per part of (a)) of a cadmium and/or zinc salt of benzoic, alkylbenzoic or halobenzoic acid, (c) 0À5-2 parts of an alkyl aryl phosphite in which hydroxy and halogen may be present in the alkyl and aryl groups and (d) 0.01-0.1 part of a phenolic compound. The composition is added in amounts of 1-10% by wt. of the final P.V.C. composition which may also contain dioctyl phthalate, epoxidized soybean oil, 2 - ethylhexyl epoxytallate, stearic acid, a pigment or calcium carbonate. The polymer in one example is a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer.

摘要： Flexible polyurethane foam having reduced tendency to form burning embers and which produces a char when it is ignited and burned is provided by incorporating into the reaction mixture before foaming an aldehyde or an aldehyde generator. In a preferred embodiment, flexible polyurethane foam of increased flame retardance is provided by also incorporating a flame retardant into the reaction mixture before foaming.
