    • Corrosion inhibiting pigments on the basis of zinc silicate are produced from 35-65% by weight of ZnO, 15-35% by weight of SiO.sub.2, 5-20% by weight of B.sub.2 O.sub.3, and 1-20% by weight of WO.sub.3 which can be entirely or partly substituted by, MoO.sub.3 and/or SnO.sub.2 wherein the amount of zinc silicate, boron oxide and, if necessary, the other metal oxides or their hydrates singly or in a combination thereof is such that the entire combination with the zinc silicate and the boron oxide contains at least one of the oxides WO.sub.3, MoO.sub.3 and/or SnO.sub.2 in amounts bringing the balance to 100%. The pigments can be manufactured by dry mixing of the components, melting for 1-3 hours at 1100.degree. C.-1400.degree. C. and subsequent grinding to desired fineness.

    • The invention covers a fine-particle, brilliant and strongly hiding rutile-based pigment that is devoid of any metal or reactive metal compounds relevant to mill abrasion detectable by application technology but whose particle-size in terms of particle diameters ranges from 50 to 1000 nm, for mono-, bi-, tri- or oligo-modal size distribution and a primary maximum ranges from 230 to 400 nm, wherein optionally for a bi- or poly-modal frequency distribution, a secondary maximum is less than 25% of the primary maximum between 400 and 1000 nm. The process for producing said pigment comprises treating an inorganic mixed-phase rutile structured oxide pigment by high-speed grinding in suspension in a ball grinding mill provided with a mechanically and chemically resistant coating until said particle-size and a substantially isometric rounded particle shape are attained. The invention optionally provides for viscosity adjustment and surface conditioning of the pigment. The inventive pigment differs from prior art by improved gloss, low whiteness or reduced whitening, relatively high hue saturation, by extremely high hiding power which had been unattainable in said class of products up to now and exhibits a low photoactivity with respect to known fine-particle rutiles. In practice neither abrasivity nor interaction of possible grinding residues with an application matrix are observed.

    • The invention relates to a dye set and a color identification means. A main concept of the invention is to combine the dye set and the color identification means into a tinting system for producing a defined number of shades of a paint ready for use. The tinting system according to the invention is characterized by: (a) a dye set according to the invention, (b) a color identification means according to the invention, and (c) a first metering means for accommodating the substrate component, a second metering means in each case for accommodating each shade component, and a third metering means for accommodating the brightening component, each metering means being designed to manually meter the respective dye component and to exactly reproduce the number of shades defined by the color identification means. The invention further relates to a method for producing a paint ready for use using the described tinting system and to the use of in particular syringes to provide a paint ready for use.

The inventive pigment differs from prior art by improved brightness, low whiteness or low lightness, relatively high hue saturation and by extremely high covering power which is not obtainable in said class of products up to now and exhibits a low photoactivity with respect to known fine-particle rutiles. In practice no abrasivity, neither interaction of possible grinding residues with an application matrix is observed.
