    • There are at least four patterns of mounting the original on which an original image including a predetermined image marking “SECRET” indicating the content is confidential information, in an original mounting unit such as an ADF. The image processing apparatus generates image data expressing the image depending on the original mounted state, and four pattern images are obtained depending on the direction of mounting the original. Of the plural original mounted states corresponding to plural layout states such as position or direction of the predetermined image, the predetermined mounted state of the original permitting image processing is preliminarily noticed to an authorized user, and image processing is prohibited when the layout state of the predetermined image corresponding to other mounted state than the predetermined mounted state is given, so that image processing by unauthorized user can be prevented.

    • The security of image data is enhanced by utilizing operation keys used in performing image processing and by generating an apparatus-specific encryption key to encrypt the image data with the encryption key. Generation of the encryption key is started when an input is made with a specific operation key. Every input made by operating an operation key on an operation panel is converted into a key code corresponding to that operation key. After sequential repetitions of this process, the key input is finished when an input is made with the specific operation key. The key codes are arranged in the order of operation to generate a key code string, the arrangement of which is then converted. The encryption key is generated based on the key code string.

    • A data transmission apparatus includes a holding portion that holds specified transmission destination information, and a control portion that controls the holding portion to keep holding the transmission destination information even after completion of data transmission based on the transmission destination information and stand by in a state of being capable of subsequently transmitting different data to the same transmission destination.
