    • A method and device for performing an Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) procedure in a wireless communication environment are provided. An initiation of the ARQ reset procedure is triggered by one of a transmitting device and a receiving device. A sequence number corresponding to a start of an ARQ window is determined. The sequence number is a sequence number of a first ARQ block to be transmitted by the transmitting device upon completion of the ARQ reset procedure. An ARQ reset message indicating the determined sequence number is transmitted to the receiving device. Accordingly, first and second pointer values of the ARQ window at the receiving device is set to the sequence number in the ARQ reset message. An ARQ reset acknowledgement message is sent to the transmitting device. Moreover, first and second pointer values of the ARQ window at the transmitting device is set to the determined sequence number.

    • The present invention provides a method and system for generating and processing medium access control (MAC) protocol data units (PDUs) in a broadband wireless network environment. In one embodiment, a method includes determining whether a MAC service data units (SDUs) intended for a receiving device includes fragmented MAC SDU(s). The method also includes generating MAC PDU(s) from the fragmented MAC SDU(s) when the MAC SDUs includes fragmented MAC SDU(s), where each MAC PDU includes a single fragmented MAC SDU. The method further includes determining whether unfragmented MAC SDU(s) in the MAC SDUs satisfy pre-defined criteria. If the unfragmented MAC SDU(s) satisfy the predefined criteria, the method includes generating MAC PDU(s) from the unfragmented MAC SDU(s), where each MAC PDU includes multiple unfragmented MAC SDUs. Otherwise, the method includes generating MAC PDU(s) from the unfragmented MAC SDU(s), where each MAC PDU includes a single unfragmented MAC SDU.

    • A method and system for encoding and decoding Medium Access Control (MAC) Protocol Data Units (PDUs) in a MAC layer packet is provided. The method includes receiving a request from a Physical (PHY) layer to transmit the MAC layer packet, wherein the MAC layer packet is transmitted in a predefined number of bytes that is determined in the PHY layer, and filling unfilled portion in the MAC layer packet with at least one fixed pattern in a predefined pattern set when a number of bytes that are unfilled is equal to or greater than 1. The unfilled portion includes total number of bytes that are unfilled in the MAC layer packet. Thereafter, the unfilled portion of the MAC layer packet is filled with a predefined pattern set when the number of predefined bytes is greater than the cumulative size of the available MAC PDUs arranged in the MAC layer packet.
