摘要： A system and method for reduced feedback in MU-MIMO communications is provided. A method for transmitter operations includes transmitting a pilot signal, receiving channel information feedback from a set of K communications devices served by a transmitter, where K is a non-negative integer value and K≧2, selecting M communications devices out of the set of K communications devices, where M is a non-negative integer value and M≦K, computing a precoder for each of the M selected communications devices based on the channel information feedback, and simultaneously transmitting information to the M selected communications devices. The channel information feedback includes partial information for a communications channel between the transmitter and a communications device, the selecting being based on the channel information feedback, and the information transmitted to each communications device in the M selected communications devices being precoded using a computed precoder associated with the communications device.

The channel state information comprises a rank indicator, a first matrix indicator, a wideband channel quality indicator, a second matrix indicator and at least one narrowband channel quality indicator. When the rank indicator is greater than 1, the first matrix indicator is reported in a second report. On the other hand, when the rank indicator is equal to 1, the content of the first matrix indicator is split between a second report and a third report.

The quantizing is a search of only the first level codewords followed by a search of a subset of the plurality of subsidiary codewords, and the codebook is based on a rank of communications between the communications device and the controller.

摘要： A system and method is provided for employing six-bit rank 1 and 2 codebooks for multiple transmit antennas. A channel estimate is generated for a communications channel that can be established between a communications device and a controller serving the communications device. The channel estimate can be quantized using a codebook to produce a selected codeword. An index corresponding to the selected codeword can be transmitted to the controller. The codebook can include a plurality of first level codewords, with each first level codeword having a plurality of subsidiary codewords. The quantizing can be in the form of a search of the first level codewords followed by a search of a subset of a plurality of subsidiary codewords, and the codebook can be derived at least in part from a rank of communications between the communications device and the controller.
