摘要： A system, method, and program product for implementing logon assignments for users in a heterogeneous network are disclosed. Sets of logon assignments for a user for various platforms are defined and stored in a configuration server. The appropriate set of user logon assignments is selected, by either the configuration server or a client system, based on the user identity of the user and a software platform of the client system on which the user logs onto the heterogeneous network. The appropriate set of logon assignments is sent from the configuration server to the client system. The appropriate set of logon assignments is then implemented at the client system so that the user is able to use preferences and allocated resources specified by the set of logon assignments.

The network environment includes a configuration server coupled to a number of deployment servers, which each operates under a specific platform. In response to receipt of a generic command for management of a user, group, server, or resource by the configuration server, a determination is made based on pre-assignment as to which one of the deployment servers is the appropriate deployment server that is to receive the generic command. The generic command is mapped to a specific-platform command executable under the respective specific platform of the appropriate deployment server. The specific-platform command is executed by the appropriate deployment server to complete a task for performing the generic command. In a preferred embodiment, a set of generic commands for managing the users, groups, servers, and resources in the heterogeneous networked environment is defined. The set of generic commands is correlated to sets of specific-platform commands for different specific platforms. One of the sets of specific-platform commands is determined for a respective specific platform. The specific-platform command is identified within the set of specific-platform commands that is correlated to the generic command being processed by the deployment server.

摘要： A method for file synchronization during an operating system boot sequence between a client and a server. Upon initiation of the boot sequence, a mini file system driver is downloaded to the client. The mini file system driver is used to download the full operating system kernel. During a first phase of the boot sequence, file data and information for managing the file data generated by a first file system driver is cached. Upon initialization of the operating system, i.e. during a subsequent phase of the boot sequence, a second file system inherits the file data and information from the first file system driver. The second file system unloads the first file system driver and updates the data files.

摘要： A method and apparatus for application management in a multiuser networked data processing environment are implemented. An application definition is generated for each application available to users on the network. Each application definition includes a plurality of application parameters, the values of which may be set by a system administrator. Application definitions are stored in a database on a domain controller. A subset of application parameters are user overridable. Each application definition may be associated with at least one user by a system administrator, whereby the corresponding application is made available to each such user. User overridable parameters may be assigned user specific values, which may be different for each user associated with the application definition. These are also stored in the domain controller database with the user associations. At a user logon on a client processor, the portion of the domain controller database corresponding to the user is retrieved by a desktop builder, and a local copy generated on the client processor. Using the local copy of the application definitions associated with the user, the desktop builder presents to the user a representation of each application associated with the user. The user may access each application thereby, wherein a desktop and each application are customized for the user.

摘要： A method and system for augmenting conventional search engine results with peer-to-peer search results. Rather than relying solely on an index search in a database that has only indexed a minor portion of the entire World Wide Web, a server-based, peer-to-peer search is initiated in conjunction with the index search. The results from both search processes can be combined so that the user receives an augmented search result with more information than a search result from either process by itself. The entities that are involved in the search can also establish financially rewarding relationships. The server operator agrees to share a percentage of its revenue with peer-to-peer nodes as an incentive to join its registered set of root nodes and expand its peer-to-peer connections. The identified sources of information that provided the search hits can be used by the operator of the search engine in a compensation transaction.
