    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyolefin-based porous film hardly causing a short-circuit when assembling or using a battery obtained by using the film as a separator for the battery such as a lithium battery, and excellent in mechanical strength by allowing the film to include a specific polypropylene. SOLUTION: This polyolefin-based porous film contains a polypropylene having >=60,000, preferably >=70,000 number average molecular weight Mn, >=7 ratio Mw/Mn of the weight average molecular weight Mw to the number average molecular weight Mn, and preferably >=93% pentad fraction. The porous film is preferably a single layered or laminated porous film formed into the porous one by an orientation method. For example, a melt extruded polypropylene film is heat-treated and oriented at a temp. of 70-140 deg.C in 100-400% magnification to make the film porous. For example, in a case of a polypropylene film laminated with a polyethylene film, the laminated film is preferably subjected to a low temperature orientation, and the oriented film is further subjected to a high temperature orientation.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the mechanical strength of both end parts coming into contact with the plate side end face at winding of a battery by interposing a single-layer or a multilayer porous film having a number of micropores between a negative plate and a positive plate, and making nonporous the vicinity of both end parts in the cross direction of a spirally wound battery separator like a belt. SOLUTION: A microporous film uses a single layer or a multilayer film of polyolefin. Preferably, the vicinity of both end parts in the cross direction of a porous film is made nonporous by thermo compression bonding or by disposing a nonporous material. The region of the microporous film to be subjected to nonporous processing is preferably an outer area with a border recessed from the plate end face by a length 1-3% of the width of the belt-like plate. As a method of disposing a nonporous material, a method of sticking a nonporous film to a microporous film to perform hot compression bonding, and a method of impregnating a microporous film with thermoplastic material and solidifying the same in the micropores to be blocked can be cited. A nonporous film to be stuck is preferably, such that the thickness is equal to the thickness of the whole after hot compression bonding.
