摘要： A magnetic recording medium is disclosed, which comprises a non-magnetic support having provided thereon a magnetic layer mainly composed of a ferromagnetic powder and a binder resin comprising (i) a polymer having at least one polar group selected from --SO.sub.3 M.sup.1, --OSO.sub.3 M.sup.1, --COOM.sup.1, ##STR1## wherein M.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom, Li, Na or NR.sub.4 (wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkenyl group, or an alkanol group), and M.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, Li, Na, an alkyl group, or NR.sub.4 (wherein R has the same significance as defined above); or (ii) a compound having at least one polar group selected from --SO.sub.3 M.sup.3, --COOM.sup.3, and --PO.sub.3 (M.sup.3).sub.2 (wherein M.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, or an ammonium group) and containing at least one carbon-carbon unsaturated bond in the molecule, said magnetic layer containing at least one ester compound represented by following formula (I), (II), or (III), and when the binder resin comprises the compound (ii), the magnetic layer is irradiated by radiations: ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 represents a straight chain or branched alkyl group having from 7 to 29 carbon atoms or a straight chain or branched alkenyl group having from 7 to 29 carbon atoms; l, k, m, and n represents an integer; l and n each is at least 2, and the sum of n and m and the sum of k and l are from 7 to 33.

摘要： A magnetic recording medium comprised of a support having a magnetic layer coated thereon is disclosed. The magnetic layer is comprised of a binder composition having a ferromagnetic powder dispersed therein. The binder composition is cured by an electron beam. The composition is comprised of 50 to 400 parts by weight of a compound having 2 or more acryloyl groups or methacryloyl groups in the molecule and 100 parts by weight of a mixture of 20 to 80 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin having a thermal deformation temperature of 70.degree. C. or more and 20 to 80 parts by weight of a rubber type resin. The material has excellent electromagnetic properties after repeated use. Further, the medium has high physical strength and excellent wear resistance.

The magnetic layer is comprised of a binder composition having ferromagnetic particles dispersed therein. The binder composition is cured by an electron beam and comprises a copolymer, a urethane resin and a compound having two or more acryloyl groups or methacryloyl groups. The copolymer may be a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-vinyl alcohol copolymer having a vinyl alcohol content of 1 to 15 wt % or a vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate-maleic acid copolymer having a maleic acid content of 1 to 10 wt %. The recording medium has excellent electromagnetic properties and the magnetic layer has excellent dynamic properties.

摘要： A method for the production of a magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The method involves coating a support base with a magnetic coating composition. The support base has a percent thermal shrinkage in the direction corresponding to the longitudinal direction of the support base of not more than 0.15%. The magnetic coating composition contains a compound having not less than two acrylate groups or methacrylate groups in the molecule and includes ferromagnetic fine powder dispersed therein. After coating the magnetic coating composition on the support base it is irradiated with an electron beam. The resulting medium has excellent electromagnetic properties, durability and improved tape skew characteristics. Further, the composition has good storage stability.

The surface layer may further contain a fluorine compound having at least one polar group and a perfluoroalkyl group, and a rust inhibitor. These components may be contained in or coated on a back coat layer. The magnetic recording medium is excellent in running properties, durability and shelf stability.
