    • An automobile door checker includes a check plate, a shoe holder housed in a case, a shoe that is held by the shoe holder and the shoe slides on the check plate accompanying relative movement between the case and the check plate, and a check spring that resiliently urges the shoe holder toward the check plate in order to press the shoe against the check plate. The shoe is axially supported in the shoe holder so that the shoe can swing from a neutral position to forward and backward swing limits. The shoe is provided with return-to-neutral means for exhibiting a return force that makes the shoe return to the neutral position. The contact area between the shoe and the check plate is arranged so that the frictional force in the contact area becomes the smallest when the shoe reaches the shoe swing limits.

    • A door checker for an automobile includes: a case fixed to one of a body and a door of the automobile; a check lever movably penetrating the case, oscillatably axis-supported by the other of the body and the door, and provided with a rack on one side face; a pinion meshed with the rack and rotatably housed in the case; a movable shoe housed in the case so that the movable shoe can be engaged with and disengaged from a tooth portion of the pinion; and a check spring for biasing the movable shoe in the direction of engagement with the pinion. The door is held at an arbitrary opening degree by an engaging force of the movable shoe with the pinion due to a biasing force of the check spring. Thus, it is possible to easily set a large number of steps in an opening degree for holding the door.

    • In a check plate supporting structure, a check plate of a door checker interposed between a door support and a door supported on the door support is turnably supported on a bracket mounted to the door support. A pivot secured to the bracket is relatively turnably press-fitted into a polygonal bearing bore defined in the check plate. Large numbers of pressure-contact portions and gaps are alternately arranged between an inner peripheral surface of the bearing bore and an outer peripheral surface of the pivot in circumferential directions thereof. Thus, the looseness between the pivot secured to the bracket and the bearing bore in the check plate can be eliminated without excessive increase in turning torque of the check plate relative to the bracket, thereby preventing generation of an abnormal sound during opening and closing of the door and facilitating manual mounting of the door checker to the door support.

    • An automobile door checker includes a case secured to a door, a check plate that runs movably through the case and is pivotably supported on a body, a detent member fitted into and retained by the case and working in cooperation with a detent face of the check plate, and a resilient member that is made of a resilient material and is provided in a compressed state in a housing chamber defined between an outer end face of the detent member and an inner end face of the case, wherein the resilient member is formed so that it substantially fills the housing chamber, the resilient member is provided with a hole portion that allows resilient deformation of the resilient member, the hole portion being sealed by the outer end face and the inner end face, and a half of the resilient member on the outer end face side and a half on the inner end face side are symmetrical. In this way, even if some rainwater that has infiltrated into the housing chamber of the case housing the resilient member freezes, it is possible to prevent the resilient deformation characteristics of the resilient member from changing, and it is also possible to avoid misassembly of the resilient member.
