    • A portable telephone with broadcast receiver realizing high sensitivity performance by interlocking with the screen display state both at the time of broadcast receiving and portable telephone communication, thereby attaining suitable antenna polarization characteristics. An antenna element (1) is mounted on a display section case (3) in such a manner that its helical axis direction is aligned with the longitudinal direction of a liquid crystal display section (2). The display section case (3) is connected to an upper case (5) rotatably through a rotary shaft (4). The upper case (5) is coupled to a lower case (7) to be opened/closed freely through a hinge part (6). Main polarization direction of the antenna element (1) is varied depending on the rotational state of the liquid crystal display section (2) where its screen becomes long laterally or longitudinally, thus ensuring antenna polarization characteristics suitable for both at the time of broadcast reception and portable telephone communication.

    • An object of the invention is to provide a portable radio apparatus capable of reducing a local SAR occurring when it is set close to a human head by suppressing concentration of the current flowing through an antenna element and a ground board. A portable radio apparatus according to the invention includes a first case 8; a second case 9; a plate-shaped antenna element 1 provided in the first case 8; a conductor ground board 2 provided in the second case 9 and having a ground potential; at least two feed points 3 spaced from each other, for energizing the antenna element 1; a radio circuit 5 provided on the conductor ground board 2; a power distributor 6 for outputting so as to distribute a high-frequency power input from the radio circuit 5; and a phase compensating unit 7 for compensating phases of high-frequency powers input from the power distributor in in-phase to output the compensated high-frequency powers to the at least two feed points respectively. The at least two feed points 3 supply the high-frequency powers input from the phase compensating unit 7.

    • Feed point (101) performs unbalanced feeding to an antenna element (102). A parasitic element (104) is provided near the antenna element (102) and a ground plane (103), approximately parallel to the width direction of the ground plane (103). Moreover, the parasitic element (104) is configured in a length to operate as a director when provided on the side of the body with respect to the ground plane (103) during talk time and in a length to operate as a reflector when provided on the opposite side from the body with respect to the ground plane (103). By this means, it is possible to improve gain and reduce the specific absorption rate (SAR) during talk time.
