    • The present invention provides an intermediate transfer recording medium which is used to form an image on a transfer-receiving member and a protective layer on the image to thereby impart durability to the image perfectly and which can simply transfer the protective layer to the image with high accuracy and also provides an image forming method. In the intermediate transfer recording medium (1) of the invention, a sheet substrate (4) provided with a resin layer (5) and a transparent sheet (2) provided with a receptor layer (3) are laminated on each other such that the resin layer (5) is peelable from the transparent sheet (2), wherein a portion of the transparent sheet (2) including the receptor layer (3) is provided with half-cut treatment (6). Using the intermediate transfer recording medium (1), a transfer image is formed on the receptor layer (3) and only the image-formed portion is retransferred to the transfer-receiving member to form an image. At this time, because a portion of the transparent sheet (2) is cut at the half-cut portion (6) as the boundary, forming a structure in which the transparent sheet (2) covers the image-formed portion and the transparent sheet functions as a uniform and strong protective layer, necessary durability is imparted perfectly to the image.

    • The present invention is directed to the provision of a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet which, even when used with various printers, can be carried with improved accuracy, can form color images without misregistration, and does not permit traces of spikes to reach an image-receiving face and, thus, can minimize the influence of spikes on the quality of images. In a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet 10 comprising a colorant-receptive layer 2 provided on a substrate 1, the substrate 1 is formed of a laminate comprising a plastic film 3 having in its inside microvoids, a support 4, and a backside film 5 provided in that order from the colorant-receptive layer 2 side and the backside film 5 is an unstretched polyolefin film. By virtue of this construction, a thermal transfer image-receiving sheet can be realized which, even when used with printers, can be carried with improved accuracy, can form color images without misregistration, and does not permit traces of spikes to reach an image-receiving face and, thus, can minimize the influence of spikes on the quality of images.

    • An image formation method and a thermal transfer sheet for use in the image formation method are provided. According to the image formation method and the thermal transfer sheet, an intermediate transfer recording medium comprising a substrate film and a transfer part, comprising at least a receptive layer, provided separably on the substrate film is used, and, at the time of the transfer of the transfer part in the intermediate transfer recording medium onto an object, the transfer of the transfer part onto the object in its nontransfer region, onto which the transfer part should not be transferred, can be avoided without installing any special ancillary tool on an image forming apparatus. In the method for image formation, a thermal transfer sheet comprising a substrate and at least a peel-off layer provided on the substrate is provided. Further, an intermediate transfer recording medium comprising a substrate film and a transfer part, comprising at least a receptive layer, provided separably on the substrate film is provided. The thermal transfer sheet and the intermediate transfer recording medium are put on top of each other so that the peel-off layer in the thermal transfer sheet is brought into contact with the transfer part in the intermediate transfer recording medium. The assembly is heated to remove the transfer part in its predetermined region from the intermediate transfer recording medium. The transfer part is then retransferred from the intermediate transfer recording medium onto an object. That is, the transfer part in its predetermined region in the intermediate transfer recording medium is transferred onto the thermal transfer sheet side provided with the peel-off layer and is separated from the intermediate transfer recording medium side.

    • Provided is two kind of thermal transfer sheets comprising a substrate and a white transfer layer, the white transfer layer being to be transferred onto an image-formed portion of an image-receiving sheet. In the one kind, white transfer layer includes a white ink layer containing a white pigment and/or a filler, and has a total light transmittance of 30 to 95% and a haze of 30 to 95% due to the white ink layer. In another kind, the white transfer layer includes a white ink layer and a peeling layer, the white ink layer containing a white pigment and/or a filler, the peeling layer laminated between the white ink layer and the substrate, and capable of causing a cohesive failure thereby converting into an irregular surface of a printed material through a transferring process. The present invention also provides printed materials by the using of the thermal transfer sheets described above and recording methods for producing of the printed materials. The printed material can be used as an electric-decorating display member.

    • The present invention to provide an intermediate transfer recording medium and a method for image formation using the same which, can prepare an object having whole plane image with no blank in the edge of the print, and can yield a thermally transferred image possessing excellent various fastness properties even under severe service conditions. A method for image formation, comprising the steps of: using an intermediate transfer recording medium comprising: a sheet substrate provided with a resin layer; and a transparent sheet provided with a receptive layer, the sheet substrate provided with the resin layer having been put on top of the transparent sheet provided with the receptive layer so that the transparent sheet faces the resin layer, forming a transfer image in said receptive layer, then retransferring the transfer image formed in said receptive layer onto an object, half-cutting said transparent sheet including the receptive layer, forming the transfer image in said receptive layer in an area equal to or larger than a whole area of the patch portion surrounded by the half cut, which is transferred when the transparent sheet including receptive layer is retransferred to the object, separating only the patch portion in the transparent sheet including the image-formed receptive layer from said resin layer, and retransferring the separated patch portion with no blank in the edge thereof onto the object.
