    • A leader tape staking rod and related method of assembly are provided. The staking rod includes an injection molded, elongated member having two opposing, substantially flat sides, two opposing, substantially curved sides, a first end and a second end, and a square-shaped opening formed through the elongated member from the first end to the second end. The method uses a tool having a corresponding square-shaped tip for engaging and transporting the staking rod to the vicinity of the leader block which receives the leader tape in a substantially cylindrical opening. The staking rod is then inserted into the opening formed in the leader block in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the opening with its two opposing, substantially flat sides adjacent the mouth of the opening. The staking rod is then rotated about the longitudinal axis of the opening formed in the leader block by the tool to a point where its two opposing, substantially curved sides create an interference fit with the walls of the opening formed in the leader block, permanently trapping the leader tape in position. The tool is then withdrawn in a direction colinear with the longitudinal axis of the opening.

    • A tape cassette pressure flap and pressure flap/cassette housing assembly and related methods for manufacturing the pressure flap and for assembling the pressure flap in the cassette housing. The pressure flap is generally flat and made of a flexible material. The flap has a first free end with a low coefficient of friction for normally urging a tape portion into contact with a guide member of the cassette housing so as to minimize slackness of the tape, and a second end for being fixedly attached to the cassette housing. At least one angled rectangular flange is formed at the fixed end. The fixed end is then inserted between at least one wall and a columnar support member formed in the cassette housing such that the pressure flap cannot be pushed out of position relative to the tape upon which it resiliently abuts. The at least one angled flange formed in the fixed end of the pressure flap abuts a columnar supporting member. This pressure flap and pressure flap/cassette housing assembly eliminates slackness and the disadvantages of the prior art adhesive-type and non-adhesive-type pressure flaps. Moreover, it provides a more efficient manufacturing process and inserting procedure and increased efficiency during automated insertion of the pressure flap into the cassette housing.

    • A tape cassette for use with an external tape player/recorder apparatus having upper and lower cassette halves and an independent tape guide for insertion between the cassette halves. The independent tape guide is a subassembly comprising an elongated bridge molded of plastic and having a top planar surface, a bottom planar surface, a front, a back, a left end and a right end, two pairs of corner posts located substantially centrally of the front and a plurality of lateral projections extending from the front in relatively perpendicular relation to the planes of the top and bottom of the bridge. Each pair of corner posts has holes formed therein to receive a stainless steel pin therethrough also in perpendicular relation to the planes of the top and bottom of the bridge, which together with the plurality of lateral projections define the tape sliding surface. In addition, there is provided behind the stainless steel pins a flexible leaf spring having a relatively soft facing member thereon for exerting an even pressure on the running tape as it crosses the magnetic head of the external tape player/recorder apparatus.

    • The video cassette storage box is of two-piece modular construction having a storage compartment slightly larger than the normal size video cassette and provided with interlocking dovetail structure at each of the four corners so that a plurality of storage boxes may be interlocked together, either vertically or horizontally. The box construction is of elongated rectangular shape, with an overall thickness substantially less than that of the width and length and open along one portion thereof. Mounted within the storage box is a slidable tray provided with an opening tab at one end connected to the tray by a living hinge, and provided at the other end with a tongue for engagement with the edge of a video cassette for the purpose of engaging and pulling same out of the box along with the tray. The front tab with living hinge permits the label area of the video cassette to be clearly visible at all times when the cassette is being stored within the storage box. A limit projection on the tray in association with a slot in the storage box determines the normal opening range of the slidable tray while detent balls on the front tab and depressions in the inner walls of the storage box reasonably secure the front tab in a closed position.

    • A CD package has a plastic tray with a central recess for receiving an holding a compact disc. Downward extensions on sides of the tray have inward projecting rails. A paper board has two panels and an intermediate spine separated by creases. One of the panel forms a base for permanent attachment to the tray. The base has side edges with recesses which cooperate with the downward extensions. Distance between opposite inner edges of the recesses is the same as distance between opposite inner surfaces of the downward extensions. The paper board and tray are permanently assembled by curving the paper board, bringing the paper board and tray into contact with the recesses in edges of the board aligned with the downward extensions of the side walls of the tray. Releasing the curvature of the board pops the board into place with the recesses engaging the downward extensions. Edges of the base lie along edges of the tray. The spine covers the back of the tray, and the second panel covers the tray. Multiple tray packages are created by enlarging and adding spines and panels and forming recesses in the side edges of each panel which will hold an identical tray.

    • Optical, printing, and fabrication arrangements are provided by which observers of flat containers or display boxes, such as video and audio tape cassettes or compact disc (CD) jewel boxes, can be presented with different information when looking at one of the box's surfaces from different angular perspectives. Advantageously, parallax effects are compensated where the size of the observable images and the viewing distance create undesirable visual artifacts. Horizontally and vertically oriented lenticulated panels are used in combination with interlaced images to convey the differently coded views without the need for physically manipulating such boxes as in the past to see equivalent information. Printed informational inserts or box surfaces are provided with interlaced images and reference surfaces for alignment purposes which is achieved either with control of fit or via resiliently flexible arrangements for urging the images and optics into positions of proper alignment. These arrangements enhance the possibilities for displaying more and different kinds of information on a given box or display surface area compared with conventional approaches and may be used to enhance the prospects for increasing sales of products and displaying sporting figures, celebrities, animation, graphics, textual messages, special visual effects, or the like.

    • A storage device stores computer data cartridges in individual boxes. The storage device can store multiple boxes of computer cartridges. Preferably six boxes are stored in one case. The case has two side walls, a back, an upper wall, and a lower wall. A case with multiple inner dividers forms inner chambers for holding and separating one box from another. An ejector is associated with each of the chambers. Each ejector has an elongated and tilted floor member extending from the front of the ejector to the back of the case. The upward tilted position of the floor member holds the boxes against the upper wall and back of the case and therefore does not allow unintentional ejection of the boxes. Pushing the ejector downward forces the tilted floor member downward, sliding and ejecting the box outward under its own weight. A comb-like clamp and ejector assembly has rear grippers that grip a downward edge of the back. Fulcrums upwardly tilt forward cantilevered fingers which form the floors of the chambers. Forward ends of the floors are pressed downward to admit cartridges then spring upward to hold the cartridges. Pressing downward on a forward end slopes a floor downward to slide out a cartridge. Elongated sloped legs dovetail into sloped recesses in the top for locking stacked cases together. Elastomeric non-skid feet attach to ends of the legs on laterally adjacent cases to lock a bottom row of cases together.
