    • An image processing system has a host computer to which a scanner and a printer are connected. A color space conversion module, for converting a color space of a device input-output image into a predetermined color space, likewise a resolution conversion module, for converting the resolution of the image into a predetermined resolution, and a counterfeit determination module, which determines a degree of a match between the image signal converted into predetermined color space and resolution and a particular image, are included in the OS of the host computer. The OS further includes an anti-counterfeiting module for preventing or suppressing counterfeiting based on the results of the matching determination. By providing the various modules in the OS instead of the device, the system is able to provide counterfeiting prevention and anti-counterfeiting capabilities designed to accommodate a plurality of different types of input-out devices efficiently.

    • In a system in which color matching is performed upon downloading a profile from a profile management server (100), the profile of a target printer may not be available under the management of the profile management server. In such case the profile management server decides a similar profile based upon information relating to the target printer. This information is composed of colorimetric values obtained on a print sample from the target computer and image data values of the print sample. The profile management server evaluates color differences with respect to color values of profiles under its management and selects a profile for which the color difference is smallest as the similar profile.

    • In profile adjustment processing, if colorimetric conditions are different from those of when the profile is created, notification is performed to enable the profile adjustment with a high accuracy. According to the present invention, there is provided a method for processing a profile including acquiring a colorimetric value by measuring a color of a patch printed by an image forming apparatus based on patch data, performing a calculation for creating a profile based on the colorimetric value, storing the profile created by the calculation in association with information about a condition of the colorimetric measurement, comparing, when the profile is adjusted, the colorimetric condition corresponding to the stored profile with a colorimetric condition used when the color of the patch is measured to adjust the profile, and notifying a user if the comparison determines that the colorimetric conditions do not coincide with each other.
